Saban says we need just to play each other

He also is the only one of the coaches pushing for a 9 game schedule, which I applaud him for...though don't expect any of the other coaches to do so

Is he pushing for a paycut too? Packing stadiums pays the bills.

So, SEC teams are less likely to fill their stadiums for a conference game than a meaningless fluff game against the Nowheresburgh Jackdonkeys? I think you might be talking about 9 total games instead of 9 conference games? I haven't heard anyone talk about that.

Tells me Nicky is fixing to bolt and making it harder for his replacement

i thought everyone liked the 9 game sec schedule except florida, georgia, and south carolina because of ooc rivalries

I can understand Saban's stance on this, but I'm much more intrigued on his stance on cross division rival games.

He wants that worse because he gets to play you guys. That's not a shot at your program from me, but it damn sure is from him.

If that is why he wants to keep the game then I am going to bet on his retirement within the next seven or so years. It might be no harder for them than playing an FCS team right now, but programs like Tennessee don't usually stay down forever. Alabama was in the toilet just a decade ago themselves. If I were him, I'd love the fact that LSU has to play Florida every year though...

I've always just said that we need to have superconferences made up of 24 teams, and 12 weeks a year everyone plays everyone, no exceptions. The winners of the superconferences go to a playoff system, where they play each other, seeded by the overall success of their conference, and then the remaining teams are paired against one another, the 2's play 2's, 3's play 3's, etc. I like that concept. I admit, I like it when we play cupcakes, but at the same time, it tells you nothing about your team. I would rather have a 12 week SEC schedule where you have to play everyone in your conference, that way you truly can brag and there are no excuses. I mean, if UGA wins the SEC this year, everyone will look at their schedule and claim easy. With this system, no such thing. Everyone has the same road.

Jesus PJ, I get it. I've understood it since 07 and prior to that even. Its tradition and has a ton of history ect. Its a big deal to the fans, but to coaches, its about wins and losses.

What dont you get about Saban really liking the idea of having to play a team every year that he can curb stomp?

Take off your orange glasses and look at it from his perspective for a change. Its all about the W.

Coaches who talk about the "traditions" of a game are pandering to the fanbase.

Its a new era.

Every coach likes playing us because we suck. When we get good, that fact will change.
