Bama fans weren't trying to do away with the TSIO when UT beat us 7 straight years.
There was no talk of a 9 game schedule so it wasn't being brought up by anyone then was it? Truth is, if we were playing now like our late 90's version and Ron Zook was at Florida, Saban and Miles would be singing different tunes.
It's all about wins. You think Saban gives two craps about the 3rd Saturday in October?

I don't know what you're implying here.
I'm all for keeping the 3rd Saturday. I'm just saying the only reason Saban is for keeping it is because he's kicking our tail right now.
There are only 3 schools supporting that plan. Which is more than the number openly supporting the nine game schedule: 1.
I don't know what your point you're trying to make.
Here's what I think....
Saban wants to keep playing UT because UT is down. Has nothing to do with 3SiO.
I want to keep the 3SiO.
Bama wasn't crying "let's get rid of 3SiO" because there was no talk of changing the schedule at that point.
I
Bama isn't campaigning for anything that makes our schedule easier. If anything, we're the only ones pushing for the most difficult option.
Hart left no wiggle room to his stance.
"I'm a proponent of nine games, period," he said. "I'm a huge proponent of nine games for all the reasons I've articulated. Now, one vote's not enough, but I'd like to see us play that."
I still don't understand why you referenced the 9 game possibility in your original post. I understand what you are saying now, but the issue isn't the 9 game schedule (which Bama supports) but the 8 game with no permanent rival schedule (which is supported by 2 schools that have publicly rejected the 9 game schedule, and 1 that has been mum so far).
]What dont you get about Saban really liking the idea of having to play a team every year that he can curb stomp?
Coach Saban is now entering his 7th campaign at the Capstone. Long enough to qualify for the Alabama HOF this past week. Wouldn't want to guess how many trips he has taken to the Bryant museum with recruits. Understanding our historic rivals and what matters most has always been in his football vocabulary. Coach Saban gets this rivalry, knows what it means to the core fan base and would explain why he is determined to dominate the orange each and every opportunity given. If and when this rivalry becomes more competitive, no one in a leadership role would be interested in it going away.
We can't, however, speak for Butch.
I like the idea of five 16-team conferences now that we have expanded to a 14-team conference. Might as well go the whole distance. You could also make a second division for all the teams not in these five major conferences because as it sits now those teams have no shot whatsoever of ever winning a NC. There would be 5 automatic bids to the 8 team playoff and 3 at large bids. Every Conference Championship game would be huge with an automatic bid on the line.
I also like Saban's idea of only playing teams in those 5 conferences. 9 SEC games and 2 OOC for us. It eliminates the useless money grab games and everyone's schedule would be harder because those gimme games would be eliminated.
