Saban's Departure from Bama Linked to Jeremy Pruitt

Interesting points. It would be interesting to see how Beldar would have handled a full on CJH offense. Pruitt was not head coach material but he was a great DC. It's certainly going to be different without Saban coaching Alabama...

Saban left for a combination of reasons, notably the parody the portal and NIL has created.
Yeah that's definitely the story from Tide Land. My read on that article is they tried to make it sound like the Pruitt thing was the reason he retired but that was not even close to the main reasons. Lets just be glad Saban is now a talking head on Sat morning shows.

He was great at Alabama, FSU, and Georgia. Georgia improved tremendously on D, jumping from 30-something nationally in total D to #4. He coordinated the #1 D in America and won a NC at FSU. Bama’s D dropped off after he left and they won multiple NCs with great D while he was there. When he’s doing it at multiple stops and those places aren’t as good before/after his tenure at each of those stops, guess what? It’s him.

His failure as a HC in no way affects his abilities as a DC. His success in that position at multiple schools speaks for itself.
Yea, we beat Auburn because Pruitt was a great defensive coordinator. Pruitt had studied Auburn's offense and knew it so well he was able to do a last second adjustment of the D pretty much each snap and was screaming where the play was going before the snap. And he was right about 80% of the time. The guy was a great defensive coordinator but just not a good head coach.

That may be the best thing that Pruitt ever did for the Vols, even though it was unintentional and not directed at helping UT.

His cheating went unchecked at Bubba

This.

He didn't magically decide to go rogue, he was doing the same stuff done everywhere. I remember when a player was pulled over and called Pruitt and he asked the officer to let him go Lol. Saban probably got away with that a few times per year.

Saban retired because he is aging, doesn't want to keep evolving with NIL, and what else can he really do but go down? Glad he did but it's not damn sure because he wanted Jeremy Pruitt back.

Yeah, I defer to Nick Saban’s assessment of Pruitt as a defensive coordinator - but as a head coach, organizational leader, and person Jeremy Pruitt was (is) a cockroach. He did more damage than anyone else to our program - and that is saying a lot given the parade of a$$clowns we ran through Knoxville during those years: Kiffin, Dooley, Butch, Dave Hart, Mike Hamilton, John Currie, and Fulmer (as AD).

If Nick Saban wanted Pruitt back, it tracks with his hiring of Kiffin - It also says Saban doesn’t really value character, despite the hagiographic nonsense that everyone spouts about him in the media these days. And, perhaps, it suggests that Pruitt’s under the table antics (that were against the rules at the time he tried them here) were standard practice at Alabummer long before we had to endure the syphilis infection that was Jeremy Pruitt.
