News that Nick Saban's charity has given 50,000.00 to
help tornado relief in Tuscaloosa is coming under fire.

Saban gave less than 1% of his annual salary to help the
same people that have helped pay toward his salary.

His 50 thousand dollar donation is .08% of his 5.9 million
dollar annual salary. To give 1% he would have had to give
59 thousand. They can't buy a mobile home for that down
there.

What do you think?

I think it has nothing to do with Tennessee football.

It would be great if all overpaid individuals (coaches, athletes, entertainers, etc.) actually returned some of their riches to those in need.

I think that no matter how much he makes, $50,000 is still a lot of money. 50,000 dollars is a lot of supplies, food, and water. He could've given nothing.

I think that's probably in the neighborhood of 49,900 more than you probably gave.

He doesn't have to gave anything if he doesn't want to. It's none of my business really.

5.9 million is his gross salary, not his net. In that high a tax bracket, I'm sure Uncle Sam hits him up for about half of that, if not more, in federal taxes. So, $50K is a much larger percentage of his take home pay, even if most of us would consider it a mere pittance.

Unbelievable that people would make an issue of this. I'm sure only a minority of Alabama residents donated 1 % of their salaries.

To clarify..

Do you mean Saban or Saban's Charity?

There's a financial difference I'm sure.

Props to him or the charity either way.

I didn't see any credible articles about him coming under fire. He contributes throughout the year to numerous charities such as his own Nick's Kids so there is not anyway to know how much total money he actual donates back to the community (not that he has to at all). Also way to keep it classy at the end with a mobile home reference. Remember we are talking about tornado victims.

To be fair, he's not one of the highest paid individuals in the state of Alabama either.

What does it matter? If he didn't give a penny what does it matter?

My guess is that saban has done a whole lot to help and doesn't publicize it.

Also, he lives and works in Tuscaloosa. As such, I'm sure he has been affected first hand himself.

Ever hear the story of the woman at the well? It isn't in the amount you give but it's the principle with which you do it. Sure, he didn't give what she gave proportionally, but he still gave - and that's admirable.

Half or more, you say? Uncle Sam has been ripping you off brah.

He spent $50,000 repairing his detached garage.

Kind of like when St. Judes or Vanderbilt sends you mail saying "donate to help children who can't afford healthcare" meaning kids that owe them money for services already provided that they are getting ready to write as a loss.

Hey it's money toward the cause...

St jude does not charge any family one penny for services.

....what he gives is his business.

You can not like Saban if you like, but knocking him for not giving enough is lame.
