maybe you can't read numbers?

only you can read and write words

ok

really dude, do teams in the sec try to win national championships and sec championships or do they try to win best offensive number championships? to say this offense could be the best of all time when they havent been able to beat anybody in the sec except vandy in ot in the last 2 years pretty much throws out any opinion you have that you want someone to take serious. since you can read numbers maybe you can read the number 1...thats how many sec teams weve beat this year and last year combined. :yikes:

Very few players "fit" in both defenses thats why a lot of time in the NFL you see a guy get traded from one defense to another and go from scrub to all pro and vice versa. Albert Haynesworth and Johnathan Vilma are great examples of both sides of that coin.

so youre saying we are playing a defense with players that werent recruited to play it.

I don't think it was the best year to try to implement it, but the last two years, we didn't have the personnel to be able to do it. If you were going to move to it, it was better to do it this year, then the past two. There was bound to be some difficulties with a new DC regardless of what style of play there was.
That's why Dooley should have promoted Thompson to DC instead of bringing Sal in.

Thompson was the DC of UCF (much bigger program than Sunseri ever coached as DC), before Saban hired him. He too was a LB coach for Bama. So, when you look at it objectively, he was more qualified to step in as DC than Sunseri was.

He got to learn a lot under Monte Kiffin's (who really heaped praise on Thompson, as a bright defensive mind) wings and then from Wilcox...who coached a very successful unit at Boise.

I was not in favor of Sunseri, in the least. As it turns out, Thompson could have done no worse and probably would have been able to keep much of same defensive scheme and terminology in order to prevent this huge transition to a totally new one.

If losing 7 assistants didn't sink Dooley's ship, I believe he will look back on this and realize that he should have promoted Thompson, instead. Given the tenuous nature of coaching security here, outside of Randy Shannon, Dooley already had the next best candidate under his nose. That's why Thompson went back to Bama. If Smart gets hired away after this season, don't be surprised if Saban doesn't just move Lance right into his place.

satan must be at least blushing at this don't you think?

what the hell is going on?

DD had a process,a plan....

he got the O going and decides to totally start over on the D?

Yes and no. The last 2 years Dooley has been making a push for guys that fit the 34 better but we have missed on some key guys both years on dline last season and linebacker this season. That being said I honestly think it is less about that and more about dropping an entirely new D on a bunch of kids.

Again I hate to keep bringing it up but look at the NFL where you have elite PROFESSIONAL players. Converting from a 4-3 to a 3-4 is a big deal even there and takes time. Most teams that convert go through at least 2 coordinators or even head coaches before it gels.

I am really sad we converted straight to a 3-4 instead of being multiple as I thought was the plan. The only time we are not in base 34 is in nickel and dime packages.

From day 1 CDD wanted to switch to the 3-4 D which is actually the best D going and that's why so many NFL and college teams are switching to the 3-4 D.

You can do so many more things with a 3-4 D and keep the other teams O confused alot more.

I keep posting this but obviously it doesn't sink in so I'll try again...

In the NFL they practice 10 ro 12 hours per day and making the switch to the 3-4 D in the NFL normally takes 2 YEARS for all the players to learn it all well enough to the point they don't hesitate a second or 2 and can then react and play faster and more effectively.

Our kids have school and don't get close to 10 to 12 hours a day for football practice so it's going to be tougher for them to learn it all and take more time.

CDD making the switch was a smart thing to do for the long term but every smart person knew that our D probably wouldn't be very good this season.

I believe the hope was that our D would be good enough in most games that our O could be more consistent and outscore the other teams and that almost worked.

THINK people...If just 3 to 5 plays in every game had gone differently then our Tennessee Vols would probably be undefeated and ranked in the top 3 or 4 and Gameday would be back on the hill today to feature our Tennessee/alaBubba rivalry.

Everyone here would be pumped beyond anything in the last 10 years thinking we had a good chance to knock off the number 1 ranked team in the nation and maybe be ranked number 1 at Tennessee next week.

CDD actually has us closer to being a very tough team to beat much faster than most smart people would have dreamed.

Now just 3 to 5 bad plays in 3 games has UNrealistic, OVERexpecting fans screaming and painting the rock to get rid of CDD already when he ONLY has 2 of HIS recruiting classes on campus.

I don't believe there's 1 top coach in the country that would come coach at Tennessee the way our fans act and OVERexpect and think miracles can be made upon request.

NOBODY wanted the job before CDD took it and I think NOBODY really smart or good will come now if we fire CDD.

If I was a top named, proven coach and Tennessee offered me $10 Million a year I still would NOT risk my coaching career just for money knowing how our fanbase acts.

Our 3-4 D will get alot better by next season and then if Bray, Hunter, Patterson and none of our Linemen leave early we just might be competing for both a SEC and a National Championship.

But we also know that with a SEC and NC many on here will still hate CDD and want him fired because they'll say he can never win it all again, LOL.

First 6 games in 2009 (Kiffin's year):
1102 rushing yards
1254 passing yards
We've scored 192 points
We've given up 1632 yards and 116 points.
We lost to Florida who was #1 at the time.
We lost to Auburn who was 4-0 when we played them
We lost to UCLA who went 5-7 that year.

This year 2012:
We have 1100 rushing yards
1794 passing yards
We've scored 228 points
We've given up 2,579 yards and 189 points.

Are you stinking kidding me? We've given up 947 more yards and 73 more points in YEAR THREE of Dooley's regime than we did in YEAR ONE of Kiffin's, and you want to say we are 3-5 plays away from being undefeated? If not for our offense being better, we would have gotten ran out of every game!

This year was NOT the year to try to revamp the system. I would say that if Wilcox was still here (not because of his coaching ability, but because of the stability), then we'd be having a much better system in the old system. But with Dooley's job on the line, this year was not the year to have the worst defense in the SEC.
