Considering he left UT and went to FSU where they won a national title and then to the NFL, I'd say not.

1st of all Thanks Jimmy and 2nd of all I try not to remember that season, but it seemed like the DBs were the main reason for the poor showing on defense

Great! Now all they need to do is hire Derek Dooley as WR Coach and that will guarantee them mediocrity for the next decade

Everyone has his or her own opinion, but this hire alone makes me jump for joy that Mullen is not our coach.

Well Todd Grantham is the coordinator and he’s had top 20-30 defenses at MSU and Louisville last few years

You guys made Sunseri a coordinator for the first time in his career I believe lol not exactly the same situation

Sunseri had been a D Coordinator prior to UT.

Surprised he is being considered for DL instead of LB or DC position.

His big mistake at Tennessee was that he tried to switch the team from a 4-3 to a 3-4 before the right players were recruited.

Pruitt has already said that his defense will be built around the players he has.

Exactly right

UF could hire farmer Fran and we would find a way to lose. I know some Vol fans will assume because he failed here, its good that UF hired him. I get the feeling the opposite will be true. Florida isnt Tennessee.

Farmer Fran had that defense playing lights out before the end of the season.

It’s official RB coach JaJuan Seider will be retained at UF! Staff is shaping up nicely

This is where McElwain completely dropped the ball just made horrible assistant hires

Look at his resume as a position coach.

He's not being hired as the DC!

It just goes to show that no position coach is going to sink a staff... As far as Sunseri goes, whenever I see his name I think of this quote from Herman Lathers (OLB): "It's not good when your coach is more confused than you are during film study." He was talking about Sunseri.

I get it. But somehow the guy has been a success as a position coach.

I was excited about the D after the NC State game in '12. Oops!

99.999999999999% of UT fans were excited about Shoop being hired....

Exactly. The guy has spent 11 out of the previous 15 years as a position coach in the nfl. You don’t hang around the nfl for that long if you can’t coach.

Yep, he would've never made it that long if he wasn't a great Pos. Coach.

Sunseri has always been a solid position coach. DC just isn’t his thing at this level. He also a solid recruiter. Anybody acting like this isn’t a great hire for UF is crazy.

When Sal was DC at TN, our defensive backs looked clueless, like they did not know what was happening or what to do. If somebody came their way with the football, they'd give chase. His defence really sucked.

That’s an anomaly it’s amazing how long he lasted with such horrible results

Sunseri ain’t nowhere near Jeff Fisher bad lol nobody is

The rams turnaround this year should make him realize what a massive failure he was

I'm a firm believer that 95% of coaches (basically all coaches except the all-time greats) have shelf lives. Especially in the NFL where there is lower roster turnover than college and the same tactics/schemes/motivational methods eventually wear guys thin. And maybe even the all-time greats have shelf lives too; it is just longer than everyone elses' (perhaps that's what we're seeing with Belichick now).

Fisher is exhibit A of this. He had a run from 1999-2003 where he was a top 3 coach in the league. Went 56-24, 5-4 in the playoffs, with a Super Bowl appearance. As the cliché goes, he didn't "forget how to coach." Something was different about that team from 2004-2010. He had a lot of the same players during parts of both eras (McNair, Mason, several O-linemen, Haynesworth, Bullock, etc.) but it was as if he had gone stale.
