Salute to UT fans that Attended Game

This is funny because during the game, some smart Arkansas fan randomly yells, "Hey Tennessee, can you say Shreveport, Alabama?"
A Vol fan then replied "It's Shreveport, Louisiana, you "bleeping" idiot!"
Thought that was pretty funny.

I happened on this site from our own board Hogville.net Let me first say that I'm sorry you had such a terrible experience. That being said, and before you go patting yourself on the back for being such a hospitable host for your home games, let me relay an experience I had at Neyland Stadium.

My family was there for the 98 game when the Stoerner fumble occurred. I say my family because my parents at the time were both 74 years old. My mother was literally crying and shaking when we finally got back to our hote. Why? Because of the rude, loud-mouth, obnoxious Vol fans that stayed in our faces the entire trip back.

So before you bad-mouth Arkansas fans and express how we should act, look in the mirror.

Our group went out of our way to greet EVERY orange-clad person that walked by our small tailgate. We offered food, drinks and any information that they might need.

I'm sure that we have some rude fans just as you do, and just as every other sports team has. I can't and won't defend them. I know that every Vol fan I visited with expressed how wonderful their trip to Fayetteville had been.

As a long time Vol fan, I have seen some of our fans be complete jerks.

I have read some negative experiences about the Fayetteville trip from other fans, but I personally had a great time. Most fans were very welcoming and good-natured. There was some good-natured ribbing before the game, but I give as well as I get.

After the game, there were some chants of "Tennessee sucks" and "Suck my Vols" (My personal favorite) but no one was ever in my face.

There are good and bad fans at every school. I am sorry that your family ran into some of the less desirable of our fan base in '98.

You guys have a good team. Bring the pain to LSU and Florida. :salute:

Thanks Vader, I appreciate your response. NW Arkansas is a truly wonderful place to live. Hopefully those that are expressing negativity about their experience will visit again and see all the great things our area has to offer.

Tennessee has a great tradition and our group really enjoyed visisting with some of your fans yesterday. I have no doubt that Vols will get things turned around very soon.

I attended the game and what I noticed was as the closer we got to game time the more rude and obnoxious the Arky fans got. My wife's observation was that it probably correlated to the alcohol consuption.

When I visited Neyland Stadium I had a couple of bad experiences with your fans. I was with my 7 y.o. son and he didn't understand why people were being mean to us b/c we were Hog fans. I told him that there are a few jerks at every school including at the U of A. I saw it as a learning experience for him on how not to be. I feel bad that a few of your fans had a bad experience in Fayetteville, but I'm sure the majority of Vol fans that went to the game had a good experience.

That being said, I wish you guys the best for the rest of your season and hope you beat the hell out of whoever you play in a bowl game. When it is all said and done, we as SEC fans need to root for all SEC schools in their bowl games. It will only make our conference look stronger to the rest of the nation. Good luck and GO HOGS.

You have to understand the situation for Arkansas fans to understand the way some of them are acting right now. Hog fans have been very frustrated for a while. While many of the "Top Tier Team" fans see Arkansas as a step child, Arkansas in fact has a very, very rich tradition. We are not South Carolina! We have had a very difficult time getting our consistent footing since joining the SEC. The Hogs have many, many top 20 finishes in the past forty years, including one NC in the 60's and a #1 finish in the coaches poll in the late 70's. While Tenn has the winning record over us since we joined the SEC, Saturday was easily the most lopsided win for either team in the recent series.

Fans have been hungry for this! As we get back to our expected winning tradition, the fans will calm down and act like we used to in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Arkansas WILL become a consistent top tier team in the SEC. Remember that our program was under the threat of an NCAA investigation for five years. Because of this, many of the players who should be at ARK are at Texas and Oklahoma because they used the investigation against us in recruiting. Our natural recruiting base is OK and TX and joining the SEC hurt us in the short term.

Other teams should not fear or doubt the HOGs resurgance but welcome it because it will make the conference even stronger.

As a last point, when Razorback Stadium was expanded a few years ago it was designed with the option of closing in the north end when needed. The talk is heating up that we are almost there now. ARK is already a tough place to play. Imagine it with 95,000 screaming red shirts.

I was there, along with 5 other VOl fans. We didn't have any issues, with any of the Razorback fans.

My wife had one small incident, she and my son (18months) didn't stay for the game and walking back to the car from our tailgate, an Arkansas fan yelled at my son in his stroller, "it's not your fault your a vol fan", but my wife handled it , and that was it.

I was there and we were well represented. I also will say that the Hog fans are among the best I have seen. They were cool before and after the game. Except for the game it was a great time.

This is what I assumed for the most part. I seem to be in the minority of having a bad experince overall with the Arkansas fans and I am glad for that, maybe I just got the worse end of some of them. I have seen many Tennessee fans be just as bad and have been embarassed, to a point, that I follow the same team, however I always try and tell the opposing team good luck and to have a safe drive home regardless of the score. Did this for quite a few LSU fans after that game, even as upset as I was.

Other teams should not fear or doubt the HOGs resurgance but welcome it because it will make the conference even stronger.
I don't doubt the Hogs one bit and hope they do bring a consistent top tier team to the SEC every year, whether Tennessee plays them or not. SEC needs to be well represented across the board. :good!:

Good luck to you the rest of the season. :salute:

I also hope the Razorbacks continue to do well. As far as the fans go, I'm sure most Arkansas' fans are great. There are bad fans everywhere. In fact, one of my friends is a die-hard Razorback fan.

Did you meet him at a Grateful Dead concert?

I understand that, I figure our that's not as bad as more than 20,000 people (majorly students) yelling "buck you, fama" in the Neyland Stadium.

Arkansas got a convicing win they deserved, and you should come to knoxville next year, see how Tennessee fan welcome (I believe) you guys, and hopefullly that will be a closer game.

I hate that you guys had such a terrible time. I spoke with quite a few Tennessee fans before and after the game and we got a long great. Alcohol must have played some part in it.

It does work both ways though. I was in TN for the 63-20 beat down a few years ago. Flags were torn off our vehicle and people were throwing stuff at us as we walked backed from the game. My wife and I were also the recipients of quite a few F bombs too.

People are people no matter what team you cheer for. Some people are just low class. That shouldn't reflect on everyone at the game. That's my take any way.

Also, ease up on the cheap shots at our stadium. Neyland isn't exactly a thing of beauty. :)
