If you thought this team actually had the talent to win it all, then you clearly don't follow softball. We had a top ten team this year at best, but a top 4 or so team wasn't even close. We weren't even the best team in our own conference.

Keep complaining about the coaching that single-handedly made us relevant, keep complaining about the girls who still get us national attention for the better part of 5 years, and keep acting like typical posters in the football or basketball forums do when things get rough. I'm sure when we do win a title in a few years (and it will be within the next three if we are ever going to win one) you all will be the first to congratulate and say you always had the faith just like a good fair weather fan does.

remember when Delmonico got fired because he couldn't win it all? now look at our BB program, pretty weak. I like the coaches, all the teams at the WS are good and want to win. Great recruiting class coming in, we're fine.

Those bashing the OP (the majority) should examine the facts before posting. When TN first got to the WCWS they were a one man team (or in this case a one woman team), Monica A. They had no offense to speak of, we won or lost with MA's pitching. Since then the Weekley's have recruited outstanding talent as acknowledged by the OP, (close to half the team is from Cali, if not half or more). Lot's of fans said Ivy and Ellen were great pitchers, yet when they got against quality teams, both struggled mightily (they looked like mental basket cases at times). And the mental errors, from Dotson dropping an easy fly ball, to Gibson running straight into the second baseman's throw, when the rules clearly state you as a runner must slide or attempt to avoid interfering with a defender's ability to make a play. The same stupid mental mistakes, they were making in 2007. We have upgraded talent in a major way, since 2007, having the #1 rated class once, and the 2nd rated class another year, yet show very little if any improvement on the field. Still not mentally tough, don't play smart, can't hit the ball with any authority or consistency, and just don't play hard and want it like other teams. If you can't see this as a fan you're blind. TN had four, count them 4 all-american s on this years team (more than any team in OKC by far) and looked like the worst team there. Those are facts ! Before you attack someone you should know what you're talking about. As the OP pointed out the Weekley's have done outstanding recruiting talent, but that has not led to improved play on the field in the biggest games. I too question if UT can win a WCWS under Ralph and Karen, they have shown nothing to this point to convince me they can

The Vols didn't hit today--but pitching was the first and biggest problem in the two losses. Certainly cost us the bama game--and then we gave up a homer to their first batter today and fell behind behind 2 after two innings, I believe. You can't fall behind in the first inning and expect to beat good, CWS teams. We had a runner on in the sixth inning--and then instead of taking a strike we had two hitters swing at bad first pitches, each grounding into a force out. You HAVE to take a strike when you trailing in the next to last inning and need runners. Oh, well.

Who is better!!! There are 8 teams in the wcws. If Tennessee was the "worst" team there then that's not a ton of room to improve. Only 7 other coaches to pick from. Hell! Pat Summit didn't win championships every year but she built a program. She "only" won 7 national championships in 30 plus years and most came at the later half of her career. You my friend sound like an idiot

Wow and if you followed our softball team you would know that we have been in a hitting slump since the SEC tourney...we made the WCWS on grit, heart, & determination...the girls could have packed it in the first round of regionals but they didnt could have packed it in when they were losing to UGA in game 3 but didn't they found a way!! Shame on you for saying those things!!

So, the 7th ranked team in the country makes it to the final 8 and then loses. Is that supposed to make the OP Nostradamus?

Pat Summitt won 8 titles, but it did take a while to get the first one. She made several Final Fours in the '80s before knocking the door down for the first time in 1987.

The LV Softball team won its first WCWS game in each of their other trips, often pulling upsets. They were due to eventually lose to a higher-seeded team in the first game. Losing the second game made it, by far, the worst trip to the WCWS in the program's history. But, as someone else pointed out, they walked into OKC ranked 7th, and they walked out ranked 7th.

AGREED. Guess all we can expect is good seasons with a flame out in the tournaments.

I said when the NCAA women's softball tourney started we should win the regional with ease, we barely squeaked by. I said we would beat GA in a real battle, we did. I said we would get to the WCWS and the pitchers would struggle and the hitting would suck as usual, I was spot on. The Weekly's have done a great job recruiting, but we will never win the WCWS with them as coaches. Tn is soft mentally and fundamentally when they have to face quality teams back to back. SAME OLE SAME OLE.

Melissa's Dad... if you watched the Alabama game @ the WCWS... you saw me on ESPN... they handed me Melissa's homerun ball and stuck a camera in my face.. wasn't prepared for the camera... was prepared for the homer!!

Mel was 2 for 3 (double off the top of the wall & 1 rbi)in a pinch hit & finish the extra inning game against Traina in Tuscaloosa and 1 for 2 (hr & 2 rbi, K)against Traina @ WCWS... they didn't reenter her to hit but did reenter her to run and she scored the 3rd run in the 5-3 loss WCWS game.

I bought a handful of balls @ WCWS and asked Melissa and the team to sign... which they did.... we are enroute home from OKC... will be back in Fresno Tuesday afternoon! Mel will be back in Fresno late Wednesday afternoon.
