San Diego vs. Indy post-game thoughts

Phillip Rivers might be the biggest tool in the NFL.

I detest that guy and it has nothing to do with Manning and Tennessee affiliation. It all started last year when he wanted to throw down with Pats players after they served them with a loss.

i watched Jim Brown play...LT 'aint no Jim Brown.

Jim Brown didn't play against 300 point DT's that are quick like cats. Nor did he play against line backers that ran sub 4.5 40's.

If Jim Brown played today he might be in the upper tier but he wouldn't be head and shoulders above anyone.

this game was about bounces. 2 bounces on picks and 1 huge bounce off Harrison's fumble. that last INT where the ball fell in to the arm of the guy getting blocked at the 3 was unbelieveable.

21 points potentially went away on those turnovers.

witht he biggest being harrison's fumble. 14-0 vs. 7-7. huge turnaround for the Chargers.

but even with that, the colts d was awful yesterday.

face it, with the game on the line, up in the 4th qtr, the colts d got beat at home by Billy Volek and someone not named LT. if you're a colts fan, that's got to suck big time.

oh, and i don't like Rivers antics either, but if the kid can keep playing at that kind of level ( how many BIG 3rd down conversions did he make???) over time, he's going to turn out to be very good......

For San Diego to have any chance they need to put pressure on Brady. I could not believe the Jags did not even attempt to do this and instead concentrated on taking away the deep game. Brady just sat back and dissected the defense. The Colts and Ravens showed the only chance you have to win is to make Brady uncomfortable. It may not work and he may find the hot receiver and burn you, but I think it is better than the alternative.

given that teams have tried to stop them in so many ways and come up losers, i think at this point it's safe to say there is no blue print to beat them.

take away the run, fine, welker, moss, stallworth and gaffney will beat you.

take a way the deep ball, fine, welker and stallworth and maroney will beat you.

take away the short pass and stallworth and moss will beat you.

pressure brady, fine, maroney and welker and gaffney will beat you.

the only way you can beat the patriots is to try to outscore them. and you can't.

they have too much to account for offensively for any defense to shut down.

short of NE imploding and turning over the ball or comitting dumb penalties, no one is going to "beat" them.

they force you to do things offensively you don't want to do cause you can't keep up.

Thats partially why the chargers won yesterday, they were always one step ahead of the colts. Thats what they need to do again this weekend to have a chance. However, the pats will capitalize off the penalties that the chargers gave up unlike the colts. While the defense of the pats has shown weaknesses, the offense is just too much!

no, they weren't.

3 plays (MH's fumble, and the two tipped INT's-all three occurred on probable scoring drives for the colts, two int's in the red zone, and the fumble in fg range, so at least 17 points wiped way by those three plays) and an absolute defensive meltdown late in the 4th was the difference.

if SD goes in to this game counting on the same, i can assure you the result will be quite different.

the colts beat themselves, the patriots won't do that.

Yes they were, at least in the 2nd half they were ahead and colts always having to come back!

And yes, lets repeat basically what I already said. :p

Oh whatever, you pick and choose what you read and just because I caught you repeating myself doesn't mean you accurately convey anymore than myself when I say the same exact thing--thats what repeating means. :)

where exactly is it implied or spelled out that the pats DON'T beat themselves and the colts did?

i know you may have meant to bring it up, but alas, you didn't.
:peace2: quit trying to take credit for my intilectual ramblings. you're above that windy.:p

Pats won't beat themselves by taking advantage of the penalties that the colts didn't. That is exactly what it means, and if you can't see that, then you need to go back to the books. :p That's fine if you want to reword what I said or spell it out for the unintellictual group, but you can't take credit away from me. No Sir!

And take credit away from you? HA! You are mistaken sometimes, so I definately wouldn't want to follow down your wrong paths. Nice try though. :)

so, back to Innuendo and double talk...gotcha.

Generally speaking, when people talk about teams "beating themselves", and i understand that this may be lost on you, but i'll give it a shot anyway, they usually refer to that team COMMITTING turnovers and penalties themselves, thus, COSTING them valuable field position or points, a la, Indy having 3 turnovers negating a minimum potential of 17 points.

that's what the Pats won't do. And that's what i said.

and it would have made more sense even if you had said "the pats won't beat themselves by NOT taking advantage...." but i digress......

as for my path, i'd reconsider that given what you consider "defanite" or "unintellictual"....:eek:lol:
OH, and one last fallacy regarding your post......the colts were up in the 4th qtr, and the chargers were the ones that had make the comeback..(hence the "absolute defensive meltdown" esp considering rivers and LT were on the bench on SD's last drive)they scored their last TD with i believe less than 4 minutes to go.....

Two things for me:

1. Peyton did nothing to win or lose the games. His passes were sharp at times, and slightly off at others.
2. I think the Colts approached this game with the very same defensive plan they used in their first game against the Chargers. It didn't work because the Chargers came prepared for said plan.

Nutshell version.

That, and Rivers and Volek were clutch.
i hate dan dierdorf, but he said something in the 4th qtr that actually made sense:

"as i went thru offensive scenarios for this game, i can assure Volek handing off to (whoever LT's back up's name is) wasn't one of them."

Rives played a great, great game.

but if you would have told me he and LT would have been on the sidelines for the 4th qtr, or majority of, i'd of never thought they could beat the colts in indy.

which tells you who lost this game...Colts D.

Yes I know that people talk about teams committing turnovers and all that generally lose. But thats not what I was talking about, I was talking about SD greating all the penalties to help the colts move well down the field and the colts did not capitalize on them as the pats will.

Come on Jake lets not go down your own little path to cause trouble by again reading what you want and going from there, thinking what you want and going from there, etc. It helps if you stop wandering off page. Clearly, I will have to spell it all out for you next time. :p

Man I don't think I've ever gotten into a scuffle with you:):peace2:

First, sure you were.

second, huh? "greating"?

third, please do, it would me much easier on all of us.

fourth, obviously, for good reason.

this is fun though, we should do it more often, i could use the ego boost every now and then.:)

First, I was sorry you have a problem of understanding.

Second, yes I put greating instead of getting--fast typer and not checking what I type will get you sometimes. :birgits_giggle:

Third, I will work with you oldies, I got it.

Fourth, no, thats just what you think.

And if it takes you to just alter my words to say the same exact thing for an ego boost, it does not take you much.

:eek:lol:you crack me up. i don't know if it's because you actually believe the stuff you post here, or if you're just trying to get a rise out of people.

either way, what you lack in substance, you make up for in comedic value (btw, after thinking about it, it would be funnier for me if you actually did believe everything you posted). so you got that going for you, well that and the crush that FV apparently has on you.:)

Thanks, I guess I'll take that as a compliment. I never said I know my sports knowledge of history--actually had to look up and see if the steelers had won so much, but I guess you are right. :ermm: Its fun to come on here and learn from you guys who are the gurus but it gets too serious on here and "acting like the blonde of sports" I think helps it out or to bring young sarcastic life to the group. Really my sports love comes for cheering on my team and well cheering against my billion hated teams, knowing the facts I could care less about and getting into scuffles to get under your skin at first until you see the light is too easy. :)
