Cool. I read something a while back that said Amazon prime or somebody was gonna make a TV series for WoT...which in my opinion is the best books of its genre ever written, bar none...
I dont see how a "normal" series for the netflix/prime model of 10 to 12 episodes an hour long could even cover the first 2 books, or honestly any way that the series could be done justice. You would need an amazing director and budgets, like for LotR...and probably close to a season per book...so 8 to 10 seasons maybe to get through it all? Such incredible books. That series is when I realized my weird "gift"? Not much of a gift I guess, just something that apparently doesn't happen to most people from what I can tell.
At the risk of sounding even crazier than I actually am, which is well documented, here we go...
When I started reading that series in particular, it had been out for years, and my Dad had all the books through book 6 or 7. I kept having those experiences where I would lose several hours at a time, and be almost in a trance state to where people and things in my immediate area just ceased to exist from a conscious mind perspective. I realized then that once I began reading his prose, not long after starting, my body and part of my brain would go on "auto pilot". I no longer had to actually read the words (consciously) or turn pages, those things became "automatic" like breathing or blinking...my conscious mind was just "watching the movie" that was painted in my imagination by the words which he wrote. I was completely immersed in that world, not in this one at all...able to watch the Aes Sedai weave their magic and Rand do the same ...hours and hours of "watching the movies" in such incredible detail due to the way Jordan wrote. Maybe people would describe that as an "out of body experience "? I don't know. I myself am certainly not interjected in the story...more like I ceased to exist at all as a person here, and I am just a silent, invisible observer of what unfolds.
Reading those books, in this way, is one of the most enjoyable experiences of my entire life. I know it sounds crazy, I have asked a couple of intelligent folks close to me that read if they have the same experiences and they looked at me like I had an extra limb growing out of my forehead or something lol. It is just an amazing experience though, and I have tried since many different authors, wanting to experience the same complete immersion in their universe, and for whatever reason I cannot experience the same way reading the vast majority of them. The masters, Heinlein and Asimov, can take me there sometimes. C.S. Lewis as well. They are few and far between though, and best I can figure it is about the writing style, not content, that makes the "magic" happen.
Anyway, I know this sounds crazy, but yall already know I am a couple sammiches short of a picnic, anyway. Wish I could better describe how amazing it is to leave this world completely and travel to other places, mentally anyway. Better than any movie, video game, or any other form of entertainment that I have ever experienced. Also, I am glad to know another follower of the Dragon Reborn. Lol
