I have never seen so much consternation over a mediocre d lineman ill suited to play in this defense. According to Doug Mathews, he and obrien are 3rd teamers! Thank God, for it appears butch is recruiting over a bunch of lower tier players coveted by Dooley. Saulsberry will likely be in our goal line defense because of his girth. What all this means for you is there is proof that butch inherited not much.
Everybody acts like he is a beast. He is a body. It's not the end of the world like it would be if aj or Randolph went down.
Prior to his injury last year, he was playing the best of any of UT's DT's. IIRC, Jones said that. He has significant talent... he's not just a body. He was the most disruptive of UT's DT's and that should have been obvious to someone with your "wisdom and experience".
He and Jordan Williams were in the same recruiting class and from FL.. Be interesting to see how their careers are viewed when completed.
Agree. Like several other guys that played during the last 5 years... I have a certain pity for them that their careers didn't have much of a chance. I would have loved to have seen how Walls and Miller might have turned out with a coach like Jones... even J Smith.
I still don't know how this staff will be at gameplanning and gameday... But I LOVE what they do in developing players. Others are focused on recruiting but player development to me is the most impressive thing they've done. To go from zero to 12 guys squatting 600 lbs is no small thing. Salvaging Pig was pretty impressive. The development of Worley and Peterman to this point look pretty impressive. If guys like Coleman, McNeil, Swafford, et al end up making the kinds of contributions that some media reports have hinted at... then that will be even more impressive.
Many consider(ed) McNeil and Coleman lost causes.
McNeil is without a position.. Too slow for the secondary and not big enough for a LB. Really thought when he came in that he was going to be a difference maker.. I was wrong
