Can't believe I forgot Josh Freeman, but yeah wasn't Garrard a bit of a running QB?

Jamarcus Russel doesn't count.... No. :p

Garrard was kind of in the Steve Young/Donovan McNabb category. He was athletic and would make some positive runs, but rarely did anything on the ground but scramble after a play broke down.

Anyone think the idea of a Run Count would work for a QB? As mentioned in the article.

Yep. As little as possible. And dive or get to the ground when you meet a defender if you do cross the line of scrimmage. Do not take any hits.

I don't think it matters. QBs either learn to protect themselves or they don't. I actually had this conversation with Paul Johnson one time and he started lecturing me on the statistics of how NFL QBs get hurt. It's almost always on a pass play after being flushed out of the pocket and hardly ever on a designed run where they have a plan. When they scramble, their pad level is usually terrible and they're running straight up like they're begging to get drilled.

Not really. When it comes down to winning a game, a coach is going to do what works. If the qb can scramble out of the pocket and get 7-8 yards every time, they're going to do so when it counts.

Just like when coaches put carry limits on rbs. After playing ff for years I've given up listening to coaches say they're going to limit carries for a rb, then he ends up with 27 carries because he was avging 7ypc.

It's fine in theory but will be promptly tossed out when it comes to winning a game.
