Saw the espn e60 profile with Arian foster

I imagine that Foster would have been on some much better teams had those defenses had the likes of Terry Fair, Leonard Little, Al Wilson, and Deon Grant.

Those teams were never ranked 8th in the nation in total defense like UT was Arian's senior season. Nice try.

You do a good job of twisting comments into something incomprehensible while justifying your on-going hatreds. Carry on, son.

Apparently only in your own eyes. And calling me son really adds to your point. I'm sure that made you feel superior when typing it. Another person looking for a reason to be upset about something, nothing more.

Good grief, everybody has an opinion, facts are Arian didn't fumble anymore than most RBs but did fumble at critical times, that doesn't make him a bad player or person, and his mother being offended and defensive of her son is natural and how most of us parents would react. Arian was immature and unable to deal with the negativity that was poured onto him, most of it out of line and uncalled for. When you come to a school such as UT, you have a very passionate, vocal, invested fan base. There is good and bad that comes along with that. I would like to see our fans be less abusive toward our players and coaches and more patient and supportive, the volatility and negativity does nothing to help our programs image. I was pissed and embarrassed at things some said about Crompton, and Foster and Ainge....Even now, some of the stuff I've read on here recently about Ainge, and Leonard Little, and of all Vols to show disrespect there were even negative comments about Al Wilson not getting his degree...it's just really disgusting some of the things some of you that call yourself fans have said about our players. Just disgusting, IMO.

Agree with just about everything u said here but I think there are going to be a few idiots in every fan base. I don't believe there's just an overall bad or negative vibe compared to other programs especially considering all the bad breaks/luck we've endured

To be honest, I haven't seen one thing negative about Arian Foster until this thread came up. Just has a strong rehashing the past feel to it. And as was discussed in this thread, other than fans natural reactions to any of his key fumbles at the time, all I see is some internet phenomenon claiming he was horribly disrespected. As has been stated in this thread, his sister was on the ESPN boards and we treated her with nothing but respect. Wishing Arian well, asking how he was doing, etc. So I never saw all of this blowback I keep hearing about.

He didn't have a lot of positive things to say about tn. His mother even talked about going on to message boards and let it be know who she was. They spoke like he should've been revered as some peyton manning like figure here. The reality was that while here Arian flat out lost a couple games for us with terrible fumbles. And as a fan...it just seemed like he didn't care very much. He was also a key player on a couple of teams that started out ranked highly and ended up unranked. The show did change my perception of him a little though. He's a good guy and I certainly wish him nothing but the best. What say u?

I have to be honest here even though I know it'll catch me all kinds of hell from many on this board. Truth be told, alot of Tennessee "fans" are just outright jerks. I've never heard other fan-bases talk about their players the way alot of you folks talk about our guys. I've always had a suspicion that all the negativity was hurting UT with some players. I suppose this helps confirm it.

My feelings are if a kid chooses to put on the Orange and White, he's one of us and we should stand behind him good or bad, thick or thin, fumble or touchdown. As long as he's trying his best and giving his all for Tennessee, he deserves support from the fans.

Fans have a big impact on where these 17 & 18 year old kids choose to play. If they see a guy like Arian Foster (2nd all time leading rusher, 5th in school history for rushing TDs) and Tyler Bray (among the top passers in school history) getting trashed by the fanbase alot of them will choose to go someplace else. It really turns my stomach that people view UT fans as the Eagles fans of the NCAA.

The guy was a flake. Remember the pterodactyl crap?
Yes, he had some costly fumbles, and he was part of the reason for the terrible year that cost Fulmer. He only needed like 400 yards to set the all-time UT rushing record, and couldn't do it. He's a fruit loop and the guy will be forgotten in a year or two.

Probably why he is the starting RB in the Pro Bowl.

Sweet logic jeanyus.

Let me first say I wish him the best and I'm glad he's doing great in the NFL and representing the Vols so well.

Now, for the bad, I had an opportunity to take my two sons to a practice when they were 11 and 8. They had a blast and after the practice the two they wanted to meet was Ainge and Foster. We went up to Ainge first and he spent like 5 minutes talking to the boys asking them if they played, what position, etc. Then we took a picture with him. He was awesome.

Next we went to Foster and he was a complete jerk. Hardly said anything to us and walked away. Now I realize he just finished practice and was tired, but to this day, my boys are not a fan of his because of how he treated them. Maybe he was just having a bad day, but from that day forward we were not big fans of his.

They almost met Fulmer who spent about 5 minutes with them. To this day, many years later, they both still have their pictures of Ainge and Fulmer up on their walls.

Wait a second... our fans over react and attack our own players on message boards/twitter/facebook? no wonder everyone is going pro early.....

If I were him I would be upset too. He played hard in a tough time for the university, returned for his senior season when he didn't have to and ran for a butt ton of yards and get dogged by a lot of our fans.

He ran for more yards than Webb or Cobb or Lewis and all those other RBs that those same fans idolize and gets less than half the praise.

When I think of Arian I am reminded of plays like when he took it 65-70 yards to the house against LSU in the SEC championship game, not some fumble. His fumbles did not decide the outcome of any games....period.

Most of those yards came against the Vandy's and KY's of the world.

He routinely wilted or fumbled in big games.

He had heisman trophy winner written all over him and just never panned out to his potential. Then as someone else mentioned, he is killing it in the NFL; more proof that he just wasn't hungry while here. I wish him the best though. As a former vols player, he'll always have my support. I never dogged him while he was here. I just always believed he could've done much more.

Foster got some very unfair treatment from segments of the media and fan base (see the story in Clay Travis' book), and some of the factors that contributed to it were:

1. Foster not having come in with a big recruiting reputation as a 3* San Diego RB that few top schools sought;

2. Being part of two unsuccessful teams in an era of spoiled fans (losing seasons being a rarity at the time (not so much since);

3. Sharing the backfield with other talented backs in three different offenses, that led to doubts whether he got too few or too many snaps;

4. His less-than-outgoing media and fan demeanor;

5. His reputation for unfortunate fumbles at key times in games, including two different South Carolina games, the Penn State game, the Florida game, the UCLA game and the Auburn game; without those untimely fumbles, we likely do not have losing seasons in 2005 or 2008, and we likely win back-to-back bowls games in '06 & '07.

6. He was designed as a cut-back runner who played better in Cut's offense than the others.

On the flip side,

7. He had a knack for being one of the best cut-back/zone-blocking runners out there, and in the right system (like Cutcliffe's), he would and did excel;

8. He never caused off-field troubles of any consequence;

9. He played very hard and gave us a lot of great moments;

10. He took a lot of unfair flack during his tenure here.

In the end, he actually benefited from not getting drafted early and getting to the Texans, as such cut-back/zone-blocking patient-style runners like him have a history of failing at more traditional run styles (see the struggles of Wisconsin backs and former Denver/Houston running backs when they play for more traditional styles).

I believe #'s 4 and 5 are the biggest reasons why he's not adored by fans.

You must not be very familiar with Georgia fans....

Feeling's mutual..met them both in LA at the UCLA game and to be honest he (they) were marking time to the NFL draft..

Foster mom is famous on Tennessee chat boards as an excuse maker
