The sad thing is, I think he really knows what he is talking about.

If he would just speak english

I really don't. Rarely does anything he draws up on that stupid board actually take place, and the commentary he gives is about the equivalent of saying "I think the team that scores more in this thing is going to come out on top, Brad."

He'll draw an x on the telestrator over the lane and say that Vandys objective is to sag back in a zone and not give up anything inside. Then he'll refer to it all night as "taint the paint". Then at a key moment he will get excited and reverse his cliche and receive a fine from FCC.

About the same as saying one team wants to score the majority of the time when they have the ball on offense, while the team on defense wants to limit scoring opportunities. He always makes profound statements such as this.

NCAA BB's equivalent to Madden as far as stating the obvious goes?

"When your arm gets hit, the ball is not going to go where you want it to."

"Hey, the offensive linemen are the biggest guys on the field, they're bigger than everybody else, and that's what makes them the biggest guys on the field."

"The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break."

His banter about "The Nail" really gets on my nerves. During the game we should have a thread going where people can post the idiotic comments he makes throughout the game.

There's got to be producers feeding him all these tortured phrases. No way one man can come up with so many ways to spout cliches like a complete tool.

You're probably right. Of course, he's probably the only one stupid enough to actually use them.

I just know that Rupp scoreboard cam should have been saved for highlights and replays. JD was fired up about it. I had to turn the game off.

Ice hedge that shadow defender before he makes a violent cut to the nail middle third of the court!

The one that made me laugh so hard I cried was when he said a player getting a lot of rebounds was "doing an amazing rimjob."

The man did play college ball and serve as an assistant coach under Eddie Sutton for a number of years. I'd venture to say he knows what he's talking about. His oft repeated phrases become annoying but his analysis is pretty spot on IMO.

The one I don't understand is this: "Dribble Drive"
My question is how do you drive without dribbling? Why do you need to use the word dribble in front of drive. It seems like everyone likes using this phrase.

I think it refers to dribbling/passing around the perimeter until someone gets an open lane to drive to the basket.

Amen Brother! Thats the one I hear alot and is so stupid. You cannot run any offense in BB without some dribbling. Its like they try to make it sound more technical than it actually is. It's driving to the basket, to either shoot or pass, plain and simple.
