it's not that surprising statistically.

Fowles scored 17.3 a game with a FG % of 61 and 9.8 boards a game

CP3 scored 20.8 a game with a FG % of 54 and 8.6 boards a game.

If your gonna compare stats I think you should include Steals, assists, blocks, 3pt and free throws.

Parker is the best player in the country !!!!! No wonder the SEC coaches didn't have a decent scheme to stop her. They didn't know who she was.

yeah, because steals, three pointers and assists are what centers are known for

This would be a valid point if Parker only played center, however, she plays guard and forward as well. She is the most complete player in the country.

CP- 67 steals, 65 blocks
Fowles- 43 steals, 46 blocks

fowles also completely shuts down the paint for LSU, something Parker doesn't. stats alone don't make a defensive player. Keep your homerism alive though.

I think a lot of people, who aren't clad in orange, are tired of Parker and Tennessee. This means she won't win national poy either, but god help them if that freshman from UConn wins it.

It wasn't Defensive POY though. It doesn't matter if I'm being a homer, CP is the best player in the country.

Yeah, Parker isn't a true center. She didn't even guard Fowles when they played this year. Candace handles the ball an unbelievable amount more than Fowles does and should be recognized for the fact that she plays 2 other positions. Therefore her FG% won't be as high as Fowles and she shouldn't be evaluted by simply points and rebounds...that's just idiotic.

So that's all that should be looked at when voting for POY huh? 3 stats sure does make the player.

SI.com - Writers - Kelli Anderson: Tennessee's Candace Parker has topped last year's all-world season - Tuesday March 4, 2008 9:01AM

After the season she had a year ago it's hard to believe that Tennessee's Candace Parker, SI's pick for women's player of the year, could improve. In 2006-07 she averaged 19.6 points and 9.8 rebounds, won the Wooden Award as the nation's best player and led the Lady Vols to their seventh national title. But this year she has been even better.

At least somebody didn't change their pick...Congrats Candice!!!!!

CP's stats TRUMPED Fowles and damn near every stat column, even though they don't play the same position. If the idiot voters looked at ONE game against LSU as the determining factor, then they were blind. Candace was cold blooded in that game, had 26 points, etc, etc., against Syl's 17. Candace shouldn't be punished because her teammates didn't show up that night.

It makes the SEC look really stupid. It will be a while before we see another CP in this conference.
