Prior to revealing his decision publicly, Bennett discussed the decision to choose the Vols with Volunteer Country. "I mean, ever since I first went up there, I fell in love," Bennett said of why Tennessee was the right fit for him. "Well not even since I first went up there the one of the first times I ever got on the phone with the, I just felt the love from Tennessee. And then finally going up there and being out there a few times. I mean, it never, it never disappointed me, honestly. And it's just a family atmosphere out there. And I can feel it."

Tennessee's young, energetic wide receivers coach, Kelsey Pope was also key in the decision for Bennett to choose the Vols. "I mean, he was very important in this decision," Bennett said of Pope. "For him to be somebody that I could play under and learn from and just be that mentor for me at the next level, I mean, that's something that I took into account. You know, he's just a down to earth guy, I could talk to about pretty much anything."

The Vols caught Bennett’s attention during his first trip to Knoxville on May 28 for their “Rocky Topalooza” event. He also returned to Tennessee on July 30 for its summer-ending recruiting event before attending his first game at Neyland Stadium last month, watching the Vols knock off rival Florida for just the second time in 18 years.

“They jumped on my radar probably the first time I went up there,” he said. “It was a welcoming visit. I had never been up there. It was my first time at the University of Tennessee, so me being up there for the first time, they welcome you with open arms, and they showed me around campus and the facilities and everything. It was just amazing, honestly.

“And, after that, when I went to the game, the atmosphere at the game, it was crazy. I’d heard a lot about it. I heard it was going to be crazy, but I didn’t think it was going to be that crazy. I mean, all those people — I mean, I’d been in the stadium before, and it wasn’t filled. When you get into it and it’s filled, and all the fans are screaming, man, it’s something special.”
