You can't compare basketball fouls to football in most cases. Purposely fouling in bball is part of the game. Every coach teaches when to and when not to foul.

Actually it is a good comparison. Taking the 15 yards in order to avoid giving up the TD is in line with intentionally fouling in bball.

It matters because the call is missed more than it's made, and players are coached at SC and UF to give up the 15 yards but save the game. Remember the 2011 UT-UF game in Gville? UF DBs got hit for 10+ PI penalties most of which were absolutely, incontrovertibly intentional. Cost UT at least 14 points.

PS. Alabama DBs don't resort to this cheating strategy.
