Any predictions? With Schaeffer, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, and Mico McSwain in the backfield, and no proven receivers, IMO they will be heavily run oriented. Does that suit Schaeffer's strengths?

Absolutely. I don't think anyone is ever going to confuse Schaeffer with Dan Marino as a passer.

without any receivers he may have to rely on his running ability which may equal superstar status

I think that he'll do well there. Running is his forte of course, but he has a pretty strong arm too. If he has developed his passing game some, he could be pretty dangerous.

Well, I just got done talking on the phone with LIO and she said BS would easily be the best on their roster, so i guess that means he'll do well.

I think BS will do very well this season, and even better as a senior. In fact, possibly an all-SEC QB his senior year. He needs to get stronger though.

I agree with OWB, in the fact that BS had shown at times during his freshman season in KNoxville that he possessed a fairly capable arm. With that being said, I think he'll be quite the weapon for the Ole Miss offense...Ole Miss needs all the offensive help it gan get, and Schaeffer should be able to accomidatate them.

Brent Schaeffer certainly has the ability & athletecism, but can he hold up to Orgeron's disciplinary standards???

It's tough to evaluate BS since all we've seen of him was as a true freshman, and I'm not sure it would be fair to evaluate anybody based on the trial by fire he faced. He definitely has an SEC arm, speed and elusiveness, it just remains to be seen if he has developed an SEC pocket presence and leadership.

At times he looked really good for us, and at times he looked like an 18 year old kid trying to play big boy football.

I have two words for you: Reggie McNeal

And that's at best.

Could be . . . but I think Schaeffer has a better arm than McNeal ever dreamed about.

Schaeffer still hasn't qualified academically. If he does, he's still coming in kinda late this year. When he gets his feet on the ground, I'm betting on him being pretty good.

I think he will do very well. I'm actually of the opinion that having some receivers will eventually HELP him, as defenses will be forced to play coverage instead of stacking up and counting on Brent to take off running. He may have a rough start, looking at the Ole Miss depth chart. They are returning a grand total of ONE receiver with 100+ total yards last year and one touchdown.

Another hand down or hand me over player picked up by another "needs based team". :bad: I just hope it doesn't come back to haunt us. :banghead:

That's why I used the McNeal comparison. Very talented dual threat with not a whole lot of talent around him.

If he can't get it done on the gridiron he might give baseball a shot, as long as the games are played late at night and in a dormitory.

Before Schaeffer's disciplinary problems, I really thought he made our team far better than Ainge did.

Now I don't know.

it's too late for that. However, if Ole Miss has a break-out year and finishes 3rd or better in the West, and UT had 5 or more losses, a lot of people are going to have an opinion on this.

If I was coaching Ole Miss I would install the Spread Offense(the Mizzou-Brad Smith spread) and try to create around BS' legs. Maybe doing that will open up the run game for the RBs and thus opening a very small crack for the passing game. One thing about BS, he was exciting to watch.

When they were both Freshmen it was not so clear cut but most fans I heard and read would have chosen EA. After a crappy year it is easy for some to say BS. But remember, he will not be in a JUCO now. I think both will have good years.

I'll give EA another chance. I know the kid is very talented. If he is fixed all will be forgiven by fans.
