Schaeffer or Ainge

Ainge's passing rating last season has more involved than saying "he sucked." That was certainly part of it but it's not like anybody on the offense played like an All-American last year. By comparison (and good logic), drop any D-IA quality dual threat quarterback into juco, and he will more than likely put up monster numbers.

Must suck for Schaeffer to be a 5 star prospect knowing he got beat out by somebody like Ainge.

Foster played like a freshmen all-sec RB, and he was. Without him UT could have very well lost to Memphis and maybe even Kentucky.

When you underthrow or overthrow the WR's half the time, your not going to put up monster numbers in high school, Juco, Division 1, or anywhere else.

Where is this debate going anyhow? Back to the QB that no longer has anything to do with the Vols, unless hell freezes over and Tennessee and Ole Miss play eachother for the SEC Championship by '07.

If Schaefer had stayed on the team, I'm fairly sure he would have finished last season as the starter. It would not have taken much to outplay Ainge and Clausen last season.

Ok. There was Foster, and...? The offensive line played like road kill when Ainge was under center and the receivers played like they had nubs for arms.

I think you hit on the operative phrase. If Schaeffer would have, say, done like 95% of other Qb's and waited his turn, he'd possibly have been the starter and not had to blow a year of his life in JUCO. To each his own though.

You can't completely absolve Ainge though Milo. He clearly regressed.

No arguement here. He did for sure. But at the same time, you've got Vols fans acting like Lions fans. And you know me, ever the counterbalance.

Yep, and there's probably not a person on this board who doesnt realize if Ainge plays like he did last season UT could very well go 5-6 again. Only this time I think we will see Crompton before it gets too ugly.

I think the decided lack of quarterback rotation will help out Ainge's fragile ego. There's a good step right there.

I think it will take a complete disaster like a 1-3 start for us to see Crompton.

My Prediction:

Schaeffer: Passing: 1,821 yards 14 TD's 8 INT's Rushing: 694 yards 7 TD's

Ainge: 2,583 yards 22 TD's 7 INT's

Schaeffer said Monday morning that he learned over the weekend he has passed all of his courses necessary to graduate from the College of the Sequoias, the California junior college he was attending. That means Schaeffer, who will be a junior, will be eligible to play for Ole Miss this fall.

His passing skills and mental ability to read a defense will prevent BS from ever becoming an All-SEC QB. He will certainly be dangerous as he is an amazing athlete. And, in some games against poor defenses he will succeed. But, against top caliber defenses in the SEC he will be running for his life, with the defense sending 8 and 9 because there will be very little respect for his passing abilities. He will not get much done against the Auburn, Alambama, Georgia, and Tennessee's of the SEC.

If he has matured in his passing skill any at all and the OM offensive coordinator can develope WR's who can read a blitz and counter with hot reads, short slant routes (ala Florida Gators), he may be tougher than we might think. Thatll put a defense on their heels quicker than anything, opening his option to running. He could be tough....
