Didn't Steele pick Purdue in the top five last year? Or at least picked them very high?

He did, 18 returning starters and they did not have to play Ohio State or Michigan. I would have taken that bet......

arkansas tougher than Cal? you guys a seriously understimating these guys. You must be taking crazy pills. Arkansas will come to play too but Cal is preseason top 5. Arkansas isnt preseason top 50.

I'm not underestimating the Cal game. It's probably the second most important game of the season, behind the Florida Game. But it's not going to be the hardest. SEC teams scare me a lot more than Pac-10. California should be a Top 10 Preseason Team, and I think that is great. We need to break that streak of losses to Top 10 teams at home, but later in the season, once Mustain has played, and has some time under his belt, and as long as the Hogs are healthy, they are going to be tough to play in Fayetville. Arkansas would challenge for the Division this year if not for a much harder schedule than Auburn, and if Auburn does stumble, don't be shocked if Tennessee has to play Arkansas twice if they themselves can make it to Atlanta.

Arizona St. is a PAC-10 team and they beat LSU in every facet of the game except special teams.

The Arkansas game is always a trap, it was in our 98 run and we barely escaped. They do an excellent job in containing our offensive firepower and force us to play a field possion battle with our kicking game and special teams. In our case that favors the hogs, it seems to have for the last 20 years. I see this game as the biggest threat of a loss on the schedule, even more than Florida.

A WHOLE lot of differences in that game last season, and this season's first game. Infact the ONLY similarities is that each team is in the same conferences as Cal and Tennessee. That's where the similarities end.

dan- Don't forget, in 1999, the Arkansas game cost us a chance at the National Championship. They beat us by the exact same score we beat them by in 1998. The football Gods paid them back for 98. I'm with ya man, I'm scared of that game.
