Scotty Hopson in the NBA

Weird post. I'm sure things didn't go as Scotty planned but why rag on the kid. I wish him the best and he was a big piece of the team that got the program back on the map.

The guy is gone. He was a Vol. I don't think he lived up to his potential or anything, but can't we wish the guy well? Besides, playing in Greece he's making more money than 99% of us right now.

People dump on Hopson as if he wasn't a good player, because he had 5 stars coming out. It's not like he was a total bust. He was actually one of our best players for the duration of his career. It's fair to say he didn't live up to the #9 Rivals ranking. Had he done that, he would have probably left sooner and been a first-round pick. In hindsight, I think we got one of the top 4-star players in his class, but he came dressed in 5-star's clothing. If you think I'm stretching by saying he should have been ranked as one of the top 4-stars, well, I'm comparing him to the other 4-star players we've gotten over the last few years.

I'm willing to bet my next pay check he is making more money than you.

im sure he is making more than you and me combined but thats besides the point. i didnt say he wasnt making money because he is it just isnt the first roun money he was guaranteed to get, thats all i was saying.

as others have said the lifestyle he is living is still better than most of us on here will ever experience im not bashing him. i was just reflecting on how he really thought he was a first round pick and that that was incredibly wrong. its really sad because he had the talent just never was really able to get things going, i liked scotty and i hope one day to see him in the nba.

Did Scotty ever actually say "I think I can go in the first round?". I don't remember ever seeing that quote. I was under the impression he decided to go ahead and take his chances because the coach who recruited him and he committed to was leaving.

I highly doubt he regrets his decision and I believe that, given time, he will develop and be able to make an NBA squad.

We have some of the worst "fans"....

...We'd be ridiculously good had Tobias and Scotty stayed +Jarnell.

We'd have been ridiculously good in 02 if Big John, Haynesworth and Stallworth had all stayed. We beat LSU in the 07 title game with Robert Meachem staying in school. Alas, the Wishing Well is always full.

the first aritcle is where scotty talks about how he thinks he is a solid first round pick and that if he thought he was second round he would come back. the second article has a few quotes down towards the bottom that he knows he made a mistake now and apologized to his mother that he had nobody to blame but himself.

how am i back tracking all i said in my original statement was how is the first round money since he was going to get that. that is exactly what i said and am not backing off that, tobias is getting 3 million on an nba contract. scotty is overseas getting what 150k with absolutely no guarantee that they wont let him go, or that greece wont quit paying him? we have seen players have problems with some of these foreign teams before about getting paid and the way greece's economy is you never know. what i said is true he isnt getting first round money or guarantee like he said he would. im not bashing scotty he was good for us and brought us to good heights i never said that he didnt, but that doesnt mean i have to think what he made was the right move does it?

dont forget if aaron craft and josh selby both would have stuck to their commitments and came here. chris jones and kevin ware would be here too, wow now that would be one hell of a team.

Do you really think every NBA team(loosely) passed on him twice because they thought he wasn't "ready" or because they thought he wasn't good enough. What decision could he make other than just to toughen up and learn how to handle the ball could he make?
