Scotty Hopson to play in Europe

A bit ridiculous here. He has no US alternative at this point. Even bona fide NBA types are heading to Europe. Sonny Weems is heading the Lithuania and Deron Williams is off to Turkey.

If anyone ever gets through to Hopson, he has the ability to play in the NBA.

That's a BIG if, unless he changes his attitude 180 degrees.

Im not saying he can change, but four years under a guy who would have demanded from him could have helped a long way. That said, he chose his coach to fit his penchant for sulking and naps.

I'm not sure about that. Scotty might have not even had a chance at Europe had that occured. Could have gone either way with his fragility.

I only think Hopson can help Hopson at this point. Maybe someone can help him realize that.

I think only Hopson can help Hopson realize that only Hopson can help Hopson. Maybe someone can help him realize THAT.

(Or wait, that would still be someone helping. So only Hopson can help Hopson realize that only Hopson can help Hopson realize that only Hopson can...)

Not bad. Point was people have been "helping" Hopson his whole life. Like an addict, until he looks deep down in himself, he won't change, no matter what help he gets. You think anyone has told him that yet?

Well, I think Hopson dominated in high school because he was just a better athlete than everyone around him.

Then he got to college, and all he heard was how he needed more confidence and needed to be more assertive.

So by his junior year he had started projecting an air of false confidence, which his play didn't quite back up (although he had flashes), and he came off like he was maybe not living in the same reality as the rest of us.

Scotty can play professional ball, but he has to adjust his expectations. He thinks he can be a go-to guy, and that's not going to happen. He needs to set his mind on doing the little things, and being an all-around player--defense, rebounding, running, and being efficient offensively when he gets open looks or one-on-one chances.

If he does THAT, he can be a started in the NBA for years. But he has to get his mind off of stardom, and accept hard work and "glue-guy" type roles.

its not necessarily a loss yet he could still make it to the NBA. Many rookies will be in Europe this next season because there will be no NBA

:good!:

Not to be negative, but I am pleased that he chose to move on. New broom sweeps clean for Coach Zo. The guys that are left have a clean slate.

Oh the coincidence if Scotty plays in Greece, since he dribbles like his hands are covered with grease.

I agree. I think it will be much harder now to find coaches who are willing to put in the time and effort to improve his skills and also to demand that he stay focused and on task during games. I wish him well though - he's just a kid and hopefully he will realize the time is NOW.

I find it hilarious that so many people are acting like Scotty is a complete loser for having to settle for making hundreds of thousands of dollars to play a game outside of the US.

Scotty has his flaws and would have benefitted from some tougher coaching but the guy was a solid player for UT and was one of the only reasons that were weren't absolutely terrible last year.

I'm happy that Scotty chose UT over multiple other schools that he could have gone to and who would probably have better prepared him for the NBA. Things didn't quite go as all of us hoped with Scotty but he never got in trouble off the court and did some good things on the court so I see no need to bash him.

I hope everything works out for him and that he makes it to the NBA in a few years. Anyone gloating over his failure to make it to the NBA is a sad individual.
