jujuan was a good player. being 'not even' him is not an insult.

ftr i agree that hopson isn't good, i just cannot stand folks who point to irrelevant stuff like haircuts and youtubes as reasons someone isn't good or people who act like college athletes are not allowed to do anything other than study and practice.

I just want to say that we really started losing while Scotty was on the bench. Granted, he just accumulated fouls, but we were winning while he was playing.

Yeah, his 0-from-the-floor and 50% FTs made a pretty big difference in that first half.

Scotty still has the best haircut on the team. Rockin the skybox is awesome! Unfortunately its doesnt win us games.

I like the guy (no homo) but he is going to go down as possibly the most over hyped, useless, overrated, lazy, does not care about the game, etc.. player that ever will go through the program. Complete waste of freaking talent.

Thank you for letting us know that you're not into guys. We would not have been able to figure that out based on the rest of your post.

I did all I could to warn most around here about Scotty, but few would listen. Sad.

No offense as you appear to be a semi-level headed Kentucky fan but there are few things lamer than an "I tried to warn you guys" post.

For the Vol fans, it's just an exhibition game lighten up a bit.

Pearl should add Larry Marshall to the staff. Maybe he can motivate Hopson.

I remember reading the SI piece on that story, and how Marshall trained him in Jersey to be tough and develop a killer instinct. That seems to have paid off....

No, its not. It is two identical seasons of "snowbirding" mentality looking to make the big play, while showing little to no sense of killer instinct, or work ethic to improve on either end of the floor. I watched him do it for 4 years, and knew it would carry over. It just took an exhibition game to bring the yearly conversation back to the surface.

There is nothing lame about.

I have dogged Hopson from day one and caught some serious flack over it on this board, but I stand by my first impression - underachiever!

i really dont think most people thought he would be a one and done. at least not people who know what they are talking about.

Scotty Hopson makes Vincent Yarbourgh look like a motivated, high-motor, intense basketball player. And that was something I didnt think was possible.

This generation's Vincent Yarbrough. Plain and simple. Good for one or two big games a year, but most games plays with no intensity an hovers around the 3 point line.

If Hopson is going to be compared to Yarbrough, he better start improving. Yarbrough was clearly better than what Hopson currently is.

Excellent talent, but he is never going to play with the intensity and effort required to be a great player. I' not sure he will ever be drafted to the NBA.

Not really. Yarbrough was about the same at this stage. Soft player who had the physical ability to dominate but didn't put forth the effort and just looked for the 3 point shot. I think they are very similar.

The haters need to lay off Hopson, he laces em up and goes out there. That's a lot more than any of us could ever do to begin with. The haters need to stick to what they do best, typing up messages for this message board. Go Big orange!!!

Ha, ok. Until the kid laces them up and plays like he cares for more than one game, I'm going to continue to rag on him. I'm hard on him because his talent is obvious, just like Yarbrough. The game should be easy for him, he just has to put forth the effort and play smart.

Hopson has never reached what was expected of him. If I recall correctly, one of the knocks against him coming out of high school was his lazy attitude and style. That said, Pearl hasn't done ANYTHING with him, imo.

Scotty Hopson seems to have no confidence in himself whatsoever. I didn't watch the game last night, but I heard that all he did last night was run down the floor with his head down, kind of in a daze, or unaware of what he was doing.

You know, I think he really did have the potential to be a great, great basketball player. And he still might. But I just question how much that Bruce Pearl might have hurt his development. It might not be as much as I think it is, but I do think that playing under Coach Pearl has hurt him to an extent. That being said, he could definitely work a lot harder than he has.
