Scotty Hopson

We'll have Hopson for two seasons anyway. He's not a one and doner unless he really improves some areas. If he does though there is no limit to how far next years team can go.

if the kid from A&M can go after 1 season coming off the bench in college, anyone can.

Yes you are correct. If DeAndre Jordan can enter the draft after one year, anyone can. Nevermind the fact that he has unparalleled athleticism and coordination for a 7-footer and more upside than anyone else in this draft class.

they are talking about a new rule. The current agreement goes to 2010-2011 I think so the new rule if it goes through wouldn't effect Hopson.

I know there has been discussion about a potential new rule, but as of right now, there is no new rule in place. That's all I was pointing out to the fella.

you must never have heard of Michael Beasley. Also you've proved what I was saying, the NBA drafts on potential. Jordan couldnt start for A&M, so if he gets drafted it will be on potential alone.

They draft 7 foot guys on potential. They don't draft 6'6" SG's on potential.

you are so wrong, Tracy McGrady, Gerald Green, Monta Ellis, Josh Smith, Martell Webster, the list is endless of guys that were 6'6' or 6'7'SG's and small forwards that got drafted right out of high school.

Jordan could be better than Beasley, I'm not saying he will, but broad-shouldered 7 footers that run like deer are few and far between. He came off the bench for A&M the second half of the season because he had a tendency, er, routine of picking up 2 fouls within the first minute of the game (ie Wayne Chism).

But teams have taken wing players based on potential in the past, however with the new age restrictions you will see less and less of that. Plus, the players they do take are often in the 6'8-6'9 range and athletic freaks with some guard skills. And Monta Ellis was not drafted based on potential, he averaged 45ppg in HS and was still a second rounder. Thats a steal.

That's not what I meant. Maybe I shouldn't have used the word potential. Maybe what I meant is 'upside'. And please don't compare Tracy McGrady to Scotty Hopson.

All of those guys were drafted on potential or upside. Potential and upside is practically the same thing. None of those guys were proven and they were all drafted on upside. DeShawn Stevenson & Gerald Green made tons of money just because of their upside. Same with tons of other people.

It's much easier to draft a 7 footer who can run the court on upside than it is a 6'6" SG.

It might be but that hasn't stopped teams from drafting a 6'6" SG in the first round like your first post said. I'd say there have been just as many 6'6" SG (SG) drafted purely on upside as there have been 7'0" C.
