Maybe he was struggling academically and decided to leave early. Maybe his family has financial issues and he needed to leave early to help them. That is what Eric Berry did.

Basketball seems to have a much bigger problem with this than football too. The NBA is probably the most difficult pro sport to get to. It is much more rare for a kid to leave school after his Jr. year and not get drafted in the NFL.

Part of this is inherent in how hard it is to get to the NBA. I also think a big problem is advisors who have the player's ear who are either out of touch or don't have the best interest of the player in mind. Very few people on this board thought Hop would be drafted. Even fewer of us get paid to come to conclusions like that. Did he not have wise counsel or did he just not listen?

Actually I think the Boston Celtics are a great fit taking up Von Wafer's role. He has a lot of confidence but he desperately needs to get a veteran or some veterans to take him under their wing and let him know its hard work to become great.

I truly believe Scotty looks at the NBA and thinks he can step in and start. I knew a few guys like that who played at Western Kentucky not too long ago that looked at NBA games and believed they could play better than the guys in the NBA. Its a whole different ball game at the top professional league, and Scotty probably will need to spend some time in the D-League to figure it out.
