Scout Article: Crowder has a Gift

Ah, so we have another Kevin mays. Filmed once said the meanest lineman he ever coached.

I'd call it more of an innate talent and desire than a gift.
You can't give someone the ability to do anything.

If he can block like Wells and have a nasty side like Clifton then we got something. I cant wait to see Weisman and Crowder together. The last guys were good Passing O linemen but never really had the run blocking down. I want to be able to run even when the D knows its coming.

This all day. ^^^

I think Kerbyson will be effective run blocking as well.

I was in the States and visiting the campus a couple of years ago and was given a tour of the new athletic facilities when I met Mack Crowder giving a tour to a couple of friends. I stopped and introduced myself and he was just the finest gentlemen: "Yes sir," "No sir," and all that. To be honest with you, I thought he was probably too nice to be a tough lineman so this is really good to read. Sounds like he has the unusual gift to be a "Jeckyl & Hyde" - a true gentleman off the field but an animal on it.

So wait, we're not going to go into Spring training planning on taking a left handed guard and turning him into a right handed center? Crazy talk.

Huh how about that...A jab at a coach who had to do the best he could with what he had on the OL in a thread praising one of that same coaches recruits. Oh wait...duh...I'm sure CBJs best staff in the country was the one that brought out Crowders natural talent and Dooley's would have never been able to do that. Smh.

Glad to hear Crowder is showing promise. With time, just like the last OL ('12 season mainly), these guys should hopefully be developed well. Just hope that this past seasons OL issues have more to do with changing of schemes, and not a coaching issue. Time will tell that's for sure. We imo just really need Worley to be developed better this offseason, so the OL has a leader that doesn't seem lost. Putting them in situations that make them fail once the play clock is ticking away.

The word was that when Coach Harry Heistand left UT he later called Mack and asked if he'd consider transferring to Notre Dame where he'd possibly already have the starting position.
Personally, I'm glad as Hell he didn't take CHH up on it.

I believe Crowder was recruited early before the D1's came after him by Ivy league schools. Smarts are a necessity at the center position but high IQ and nastiness is priceless. Think maybe one of or both of his brothers played at Ivy league schools. Seems like I read that somewhere.

It's great to hear that Crowder plays with an attitude. It didn't take long for Wiesman to let everyone know about his "mean streak." I also think I read that Blair was "nasty." If Jackson and Kerbyson also play with an attitude then next year's OL can be really good. Every coach will tell you that you need to deliver that knock out punch early and often to take away a team's will to compete. Next fall should be interesting.

Mack's brothers both played in the Ivy league. One of them is in UT's law school now. Mack had plenty of offers including USCe and Vandy who he really liked (before Franklin)

Side story his dad may wish I wouldn't share.
When the 3 brothers were much younger mom came home one day and said she wished they didn't even have a TV. Pops jumps up and says "no problem" and cuts the power cord off of the TV. The boys grew up without a TV. End of the story was dad finally went out and got a new big flat screen when Mack signed with UT.
I asked what the boys did to kill time and he said worked around the house and went hunting.
How much better would the youth of today be if we all did that?

Soooo, you like the fact that Kiffin didn't recruit a center with that #1 class?

Our OL should be fine next year. The only concern is these guys haven't played together as much as our last one did. I think for instance the Fulton/James tandom were really solid.

I think Crowder, Blair, Jackson, Kerbyson will be really solid run blockers. In passing situations where I will be slightly worried until they play together more. Good side is our 14 line will be the same as 15. Shouldn't have anyone leaving.

Don't forget Wiesman and his mean streak! He really hit the ground running as a freshman last year.
