Scroggins hasn't commited...YET

Sounds like our coaches made his decision an easy one. Unless he turns a complete 180 w/in the next week I think we've found our future QB. Way to go on the Rock btw, sounds like he was pretty impressed w/ it.

He seems too competitive for that. Judging from his comments, I think he wants to get that USC offer to show he is the best QB in CA.....but I think the ship has sailed on him committing there, IMHO.

He's hurt and will be very limited in drills he can perform at the USC camp.

Just go ahead and offer Anderson a spot too...IF Scroggins is willing to commit. If he (JS) thinks he's good enough to work with on the field, then give him what he's asking for. If Anderson isn't good enough for real PT, then just have him riding the pine. We could stand to waste one WR spot on a mediocre kid, if that could solve our QB issue.
All the outstanding QBs in the world won't mean much if you've got Nick Stephens throwing the ball to them.

I see the logic in what you say, but longterm you aren't doing yourself any favors if the kids are disgruntled in the future because that WR can never see the field here. You have to do what's best for them, sometimes. Also, this staff isn't going to waste any space on dead weight. They've made that clear. If you come here, you are expected to eventually contribute. If they don't think you can, you won't be offered.

If Jerry Anderson = Jesse Scroggins, it seems like a pretty easy decision. Offer Anderson. Anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot.

We don't have to sign Anderson to get Scroggins. The coaches are probably giving him a thorough evaluation though which will help because at least we can say we were willing to give him a look.

I have to agree with the last 2 posts.
If jesse wants to be a vol he will be with or without his cousin.
I know he has stated they have been trying to hook up for a while but it has not worked out but he not dumb enough to mess his college choice up because of his cousin.IMO

They could let Anderson be a preferred walk-on if he does not meet the talent expectations here.

What is the difference in a walk on and a preferred walk on?
If I understand it correctly, Preferred walk-on means you're first in line to get awarded a scholarship if/when one becomes available.
Coach Fulmer awarded a few walk-ons scholarships after working their tails off. Doubt he goes the walk-on route, with a few decent scholarship offers in hand.
Since he has an offer from Duke, so he must be academically good to go. Great size/speed combo, but doesn't mean much if he isn't that talented. Wonder what they thought of his work at camp?

I normally wouldn't want us to waste a scholarship on someone the coaches believe will never contribute much, but it IS worth it to land what you think is your marquee QB.
Thing is, we could get stuck with Anderson and no Scroggins. If I were CLK, I might consider turning the tables on Scroggins a little bit with this.
I'd tell him bluntly, "If you commit to us, we'll take a chance with him and offer your cousin too." If not, we're frankly going to be a lot less inclined to do so at this point. Right now, offering him is a high risk for us, but it's a risk worth taking if you're here throwing him the ball"

:good!: nicely put, email it to CLK immediately!

Now that's smooth. I like it! :eek:k:
