Season Ticket Renewal Form Was Just Delivered

I too am giving up my season tickets this year (continuing to donate). With kids playing sports on the weekends, the travel from GA and a sweet HDTV & grill this crappy schedule just didn't warrant it. 3 decent home games, really?? I will just try to get tickets to those. As soon as they come up with a quality home schedule I will be back. If they continue to play the likes of Austin Peay, South Alabubba and West Kentrucky every year then I will happily watch them at home.

They're about to get it.

You forgot the demand side. If you have a stadium that seat 60K and 80K want to go, you can demand a higher price...and get it.

If you have a stadium that seats 100K and "only" 80K want to go you have surplus.

I didn't forget the demand side.
I figured that part was implied.

If you don't want to go the games, don't go. Tennessee was playing football on Shields-Watkins Field long before you were born and I'm pretty sure they will survive without you being there.

Hopefully, you will not be able to get tickets back when the team starts winning again.

It's cheaper to just buy tickets a few hours before the game around campus and you can get better seats.

My Redskins season tix are 100.00 each (x4) and the parking pass is 40.00. What sucks is you have to buy the preseason tix as well at the same price. Oh Well. That's the price you have to pay. If I lived near K-town, id pay what they ask to see my Vols.

Go Skins and Go Vols

i will speak to some things going on at florida as i believe they are happening across the country and see if this rings true as far as tennessee is concerned.

but, i think schools need to pay attention to the following problems.

problem 1A- SEC championship/Bowl tickets. A large reason people are season ticket holders, for whatever sport it may be, is that if the team you cheer for has that magical season, you can get tickets to the playoffs or whatever the event may be (super bowl being an exception). well, a big problem is that people who pay serious cash for season tickets can not get their hands on sec title game tickets. at florida, people who got sec championship game tickets in 2006 were not high enough on the booster pecking order to get them in 2008, only two years later. people don't shell out heavy cash to be locked out of buying tickets to the event when that great season comes around. that ticks people off.

problem 1B- congratulations, you donate enough to get sec title game tickets or national title game tickets. now, here's your reward. you get tickets in the damn nosebleeds. after donating a 4 figures plus (per ticket), you are in the upper, upper deck. that ticks people off.

problem 1C- hey, there are plenty of tickets available for the bowl game (see florida-sugar bowl-2012). but, the tickets the university is given are terrible. that ticks people off.

all of these things cause a problem. why give to the school (Except for pure love of school) when despite donating a nice sum of cash, i still can't get my hands on the big events of the season. or, even if i do, i'm sitting in no man's land.

problem 2: the cupcake games. schools used to be able to sell the returned tickets from the opponent (such as west wyoming tech) to the non-season ticket holder and sell out or come close. now, you must be out of your damn mind if you think anyone is paying $50.00+ for a single game ticket to see west wyoming tech. it ain't happening.

problem 3: it used to be (even if it wasn't true) there was a belief that season tickets were the only way to be sure of seeing the premier games on the schedule. every school has about two home games they are excited about, two or three that are of average interest, and two or three that have very little appeal. people were willing to eat money on the unappealing games to be guaranteed tickets to the premier games on the schedule. the vast majority of people don't believe in that anymore. they know damn well they can get the tickets to the premier games without having to buy tickets to the cupcake games.

throw in the economy and hdtv, etc, etc, etc. and schools need to really think about scheduling and pricing.

and members of the sec need to have a chat about the amount of tickets schools receive for the sec title game. and colleges across the country need to have a chat with the bowls about the location of the tickets they receive. schools can't be on the hook for unsold tickets if the tickets given to the school are crap. there need to be more tickets given to the schools that are in a quality seating area.

a lot of the pricing is because every school is trying to keep up with each other. for that, i will defend the schools. people are pissed about prices but wonder how come they don't have a larger hd jumbotron at the stadium.

however, raising prices only works if you can sell the product. many people are not shelling out cash for a product they can attend at a much cheaper price and get a much better seat.

Great points, 99.
Regarding the bowl seats, I think the entire bowl system needs work. Or, they could just get rid of the whole thing and replace it with something better. Basketball doesn't need a bunch of leaching corporate sponsors to stage the tournament, but football keeps outsourcing the bulk of its postseason.

Getting rid of Dools and company is priceless IMO. They could have charged 150.00/game this upcoming season and I would not have said a word. With what I see CBJ and staff doing, makes me think the better product on the field is worth more cash out of my pocket. JMO

I use to order season tix every year but see no need paying donation, paying nearly 50.00 to see us blowout an FCS team, and paying 70.00 to watch my vols get dominated by good teams. A fan would come out better by getting scalped tix or getting them online. If I want to watch a weak school I pay around 20.00 a ticket or less sometimes free and if I want a good team I wait to last minute and pay 50.00 a ticket.

i'll continue to do like i normally do: go to the one or two interesting games a year and pay $80 or less per tik. other times, I'll have people over and grill/drink

Bilking the fans and using hype and old media. Passed on buying this year after having only gone to 3 last season despite buying season tickets. My decision really has nothing to do with whether Butch is the guy or not. It has to do with sitting in a cramped, no back seat with blaring loud speakers and a mediocre view of the field. Although I will add the UTAD insisting that Dools was a real HC contributed to my attitude of not going.

They need to get a clue. Increase the comfort and the experience of game day for 80,000 fans by increasing the space for seats with backs and they will be able to charge even higher prices along with higher donations. All pro sports teams have figured this one out a long time ago. They reduced their seating capacity and upgraded the experence. Or they can keep doing what they are doing and the easy chair with HDTV will continue to become more attractive. UT thinks that the fanbase will continue to fork it out without having to do anything of substance to the seating. They will give you a few more restrooms and food choices - those are easy and getting people to buy more food makes them more money.

I can only think that such sentiment is the result of so many losing seasons. Going to a game at Neyland is not about comfort or amenities, it's about 100,000+ screaming fans all wearing orange and singing rocky top. When we start winning again, surely no one will think that we need to reduce seating capacity. People like you are a danger to what we know and love, what makes Tennessee special.

really??? that is dumb. you want comfort stay home and watch. you go to the game to watch it and cheer for the vols and raise heck. I bet you like to go to music concerts and sit in chair backs with soda holders and an assistant that will hand you your drink. And you all say my posts are ridiculous. We want loud, rowdy, friends at our home games not folks who want to sit in a seat back chair and knit or read a romance novel. The only reason you have for sitting at a game is if you have kids or are disabled or have health issues and being drunk is not a health issue it is a choice you make.

the game day experience has changed some but the idea of raising prices with the bs product we have had to endure is beyond ridiculous

So why is the student section half empty?

I think you're in the minority on this one...

Most people are pretty reserved in their expectations and hate being charged the same donation for a TERRIBLE home schedule.

UF and Bama rotate to away this year, and then for our OOC we get 3 cupcakes that shouldn't even be allowed to sniff the grass in Neyland? And I'm still paying the same donation? I wouldn't even be able to sell these tickets for face value, let alone recover any donation. I should have just bought single game tix.
