Honestly, I'd have thought they pulled out earlier for that trip than after lunch on a friday. Every bit a 6 hour drive to get out to Athens. Maybe 5 on a good drive. And they will still hit Friday traffic in Atlanta. It takes us usually 5-1/2 to go from Cookeville to Hartwell in a car. THey got a caravan of buses.

Athens is not that far from Knoxville. Used to drive a truck between the 2 once a week. Could drive it in about 4.5 hrs going down highway 411 at night.

If they run into Atl traffic then they went the wrong way. I live in GA and Atl is not on the path from Knoxville to Athens. It should be a 4 and a half hour trip from Knoxville to Athens

The band usually stays in Atlanta, wouldn't be surprised if the team does too. There's certainly better choice in hotels.

It makes me happy to see Cooper as a captain for this game. After what happened between his family and the University of Georgia, there has to be a personal beef for the Mays family.

I'm a GA native 49 of my 59 years. The only Interstate travel for that bus caravan is 75 to 285 to 85 to the flyway. And that is one of maybe two routes from knoxvile to athens and they both deal with ATL. Referencing ATL traffic includes the perimeter highways. I know a majority of them by heart.

You ever drove from Athens to K'town? They sure ain't going thru Cherokee via Gatlinburg, or I-40 thru Ashville, then Greenville. That's an hour longer. I lived 45 minutes NE of Athens for 18 years and 45 minutes SW of Athens for 31 years. I know my roads thank you.

I would say the caravan of state boys that is accompanying them probably speeds things up a bit.

Yeah I have made the trip and all 3 routes were listed within 10mins of each other when I did it. The only difference was the ATL traffic which could add time to the trip. Guess it depends on whose driving. My job goes all over this state so I have worked all over GA for the last 15 years. I'm pretty familiar with the roads as well. I live below Macon and I have a lot of family in Lawrenceville. My dad lives in East TN so I've been back and forth a lot.

You fellas sure those busses aren’t just on the way to TYS for the charter hop down to Ben Epps airport ?
Would think they would've took Alcoa hwy from campus to TYS and avoided i40 altogether if that were the case. Georgia seems close enough to drive rather than fly but who knows? I obviously don't work in the UT Athletics Dept.
