SEC asks for ESPN's help

Attendance sagging.

Tennessee attendance down 11% year over year.

Mizzou (23%), A&M (-16) also crashing and Vandy (-11) and Alabama (-10) suffering.

As reference for Tennessee, that's down 27% from the previous high of 20,483 in 2009 and down 22.5% from 2010 (19,168). That's multi-millions in lost revenue.

Not sure start times are really the problem. Not here, at least. We don't have many 9 p.m. games.

Not long ago, we were packing TBA, were in the top 5 nationally in attendance, beating the number 1 teams in the country, going to the Sweet 16 and expected we would be in the dance every year.

Look at us now and it's not because we are on TV too much or starting times are not convenient. We have sunk into mediocrity with the rest of the SEC. The team is not motivated enough to go after loose balls. The likes of Kevin Stallings with only 7 average players completely out maneuvers our superior players.

Too much TV is not the problem. Losing is.

Exactly right. The call to ESPN is all window dressing looking to dilute the real issue with UT basketball. The problem at hand is we have a coach who ranks in the bottom third in coaching ability in the SEC. And a record to match. Better coaching gets abetter record which WILL get the seats full again. Not sure the current coach can do that. Certainly hasn't shown that ability yet in the time at UT.

Maybe consider lowering ticket prices and eliminating scalping along with Stub Hub where tickets are marked up 150%. People simply can't afford to go to games these days.

If scalpers are marking up Tennessee basketball games 150%, they have to be the dumbest scalpers in the universe. :ermm:

It can't hurt, but in my opinion the bigger issue is the performance of all teams not named Kentucky or Florida.

Of the top 10 conferences, those that draw over 1 million over the course of a season:

#1. The Big 10, #6. The Mountain West, #7 The PAC 12, and the #9 Atlantic 10 all set record attendance in 2013..

#2 Big East, #3 SEC, #4 Big 12 and #10 Conf. USA were all down in attendance.

#5 ACC, and #8 Missouri Valley were up...

18 of the 32 D1 Conferences were down in attendance.

I doubt it makes much difference. Is that going to make better recruits want to go to Georgia and South Carolina to play against them?

Ironically those 2 schools supposedly made 'big hires' in Fox and Frank Martin
