So far only five SEC teams are undefeated, with UT, Vandy, and USCe being the Eastern Division teams all at 5-0.

BA's 2/21 Reviews

• In the series we highlighted in Weekend Preview, Tennessee broke open a 3-2 game with five runs in the seventh, then held off UNLV’s five-run rally in the ninth to win 8-7. Vols senior Nick Williams (6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K) out-pitched UNLV preseason All-American Erick Fedde (6 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 K), and Nick Senzel hit a grand slam to highlight Tennessee’s big seventh inning.

• Tyler Beede (6 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 11 K) was brilliant in No. 9 Vanderbilt’s 14-1 shellacking of Illinois-Chicago. The Commodores pounded out 19 hits, as 10 different players recorded hits.

• Chris Ellis (9 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K) shut down Georgia State’s potent offense in Mississippi’s 3-0 win. The talented Ellis appears to have harnessed his significant potential, as he has opened the year with 15 consecutive scoreless innings, allowing just nine hits.

• Stephen F. Austin State pushed across a run in the 13th on a sacrifice fly to upset No. 21 Alabama, 2-1. SFA’s Cameron Gann (7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K) outpitched Bama ace Spencer Turnbull (5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 5 BB, 6 K).

• Jordan Montgomery (7 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K) dominated for the second straight week, leading South Carolina to a 4-0 win against Eastern Kentucky.

• Aaron Nola exited after seven no-hit innings for No. 8 LSU, allowing just one walk while striking out eight in a 9-0 win. Good luck finding any pitcher in college baseball off to a better start than Nola, who is now 2-0, 0.00 with 14 strikeouts, one walk and four hits allowed through 13 innings.

Florida 2, Miami 5
Sac. State 5, Texas A&M 7 Congrats to Miss.State to losing to one of their typical pre-conference cupcakes.

Only bad loss today is Miss. State.

UGA is now 1-5 as their schedule softens after this trip to FSU this weekend. They will be over .500 before SEC play but they obviously have problems.

Tennessee, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Arkansas and Ole Miss and LSU remain unbeaten.

Only Georgia is below .500. Miss State is at .500 w/ZERO quality wins. Bama is 3-2.

None of those SEC losses are wholly unexpected. Florida and Georgia lost to better opponents and Sac. State is a very good program and likely has as much or more tradition than aTm. They may have better talent access.

We're loaded in baseball talent in Sac. It would be smart if every sport recruits this town.

For an uninformed football guy, does it look like we may exceed expectations for baseball this year?

Are we top half in the SEC? Still poor? Maybe even top tier? What's the outlook right now would yal say...?

Seems to be the best team we have had since Delmonico was here. The goal is to make the SEC tournament.

Quinnipiac, our next opponent went 0-3 this weekend with losses to Villanova, Norfolk St. and Buffalo.

La Salle is 1-6, they beat St. Louis 4-1 today, picking up their first win on the season.

Arizona St. has lost two this weekend, play today at 4 PM. They are 2-4 on the season.

UNLV 2 Tennessee 4 (Vols Sweep)
Holy Cross 6 Miss. State 1 (2-2 series split)
Kentucky 13 St. Johns 0 (Norfolk, VA)
Cincinnati 11 Missouri 5 (W-S, NC)
Florida 6 Miami 4 (Canes win 2-1)
S.F. Austin 2 Alabama 3 F/10 (UA wins 2-1)
EKU 0 So. Carolina 6 (Cocks sweep)
Sac. State 0 Texas A&M 5 (Ags win 2-1)
UIC 1 Vanderbilt 12 (VU sweep)
Eastern Ill 3 Arkansas 8 (Hog sweep)
Ga. State 6 Ole Miss 4 (Rebels 2-1)
ETSU 3 Auburn 2 F/10 (AU goes 1-2 in own tourney)
Texas Southern 0 LSU 1 (1st)
Georgia @ Florida State cancelled- UGA avoids the sweep

Ole Miss loss means only 5-teams (Tenn, SC, Vandy, Ark and LSU) remain unbeaten.

I look for Vols to break into most of the polls this week. If nothing else, they will take UNLV's place.

Streak continues. After loading the bases with no outs, #Gamecocks get out of it to win 6-0. That's 51 innings of shutout baseball.

ETSU (4-3) upset Auburn today to go 2-1 in AU tourney. Lost to Furman midweek

Tenn. Tech (7-1) with 4 game sweep of school I never heard of and loss to MTSU midweek.

MTSU (4-3) 2-1 in local tourney and beat Tn Tech midweek

Belmont (4-3) Went 2-1in tourney in Nashville and midweek win over WKU

Lipscomb (1-6) Went 1-2 in tourney in Nashville. And lost midweek at Vandy

Austin Peay (1-6) Swept badly by Baylor over weekend plus midweek thrashing by SIU.

Memphis (6-1) 2-1 at Samford this weekend plus midweek win over what now appears to be a badly overrated Miss. State team.

Overall, it appears the state is down. Schools that have had good seasons recently like Belmont are down early.

Will LSU be ranked #1 in the morning. Cal State Fullerton is 4-3, Mississippi State is 4-4, Oregon State is 5-2...

Will Arizona State fall out of the polls at 3-4, how far will Indiana fall at 2-5?

Should be interesting.

GBO!

Good questions.

There is far more politics and regionalism in the baseball polls than others. There is one poll that is so far up the ACC's arse that they have to pump in daylight.

Indiana is the latest example of a northern team being propped up by the NCAA and some polls- (see Notre Dame in past as well) They had no business being ranked.

Miss. State is reaping karma. They never challenge themselves early on and it's about time that caught up with them. They'll fall to the mid 20s and deserve lower.

College baseball has more parity than ever before but it still lacking. There's some schools that suck now that have no business sucking (Texas, Georgia, Arizona State, Arizona, USC) UCLA is losing more than they should as is Fullerton.

I think Florida State will be #1 and that may be do to the publicity surrounding their closer than their performance.
