SEC basketball

For the 3rd time, I admit that I am a bit ignorant to every detail of basketball outside the SEC. The level of hate and egos shown on here is remarkable.

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

There was no "hate" in what I was saying but if you're "ignorant" to the point where you just forget about two consensus top 5 teams, including one that actually eliminated Tennessee, you probably shouldn't be commenting trashing other conferences...

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Vandy finished 2nd in the conference behind only Kentucky and beat UT twice. It looks like they are compeateing OK.

This confused me too...and even if they weren't, why suggest a move to the ACC? Yeah, much easier road there...haha I think that last part was referring to football though

Well geez. I guess I just completely fail at participating in online forums.

Cotton just Google pelphrey suspends and you can read about it. Sad times for that whole team last season and worse than the vols transgressions but not much national media attention.

Probably because they suck, nobody cares about teams that suck

I said elite 8 for the vols and yes I gloated at those who said Pearl could not do it.

Many on here say south Carolina will be much worse so quantify that. 10 more losses? 7?

I have made no comments about South Carolina being much worse, although I certainly don't see any reason to believe they will be better. I qualified my expectations when you make comments about being much better---the same would stand for being much worse.

Our bids is absolutely and correctly depending on relative strength of other conferences too.

I'll be shocked if we don't end up with 4. Given our perceived strength at the top, any team that holds its own will find some national love. The guys that find a way to steal a couple wins against the top 3 have it made. Vandy's homecourt abortion makes them a very tough out. Helps that they have a couple of talented guys.

Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, and one team from the west, probably Miss. St. Georgia could get in as a 19-11 team if they can scrounge up 10 conference wins.

Conference bids to the NCAA tournament?

Emain is in another thread in May saying that if Florida wins the SEC, the SEC will have 3 bids to get into the tournament. It looks like Lawvol is also predicting 3 bids.

What do the rest of you think?

I may be at 5...

Hell yes it will be, if Florida wins the SEC this year, it is because there are a whole mess of ****ty teams in the SEC. Doesn't matter, because they won't

I'm going with 4. I gotta believe that someone in the west will either not be too bad or win the SEC tourney (hopefully not, because that will be us)

Serious question MHF, which five?

My serious answer is I do not know yet.

Miss State has now had perhaps their most important player in doubt 2 years in a row. Dee Bost missing the deadline is idiotic but he never took money.

UK, UK and UT should all be in the tournament and I would not be surprised if Vanderbilt made it as well.

My prediction overall is that the SEC will have more non conference wins, so our bottom teams will give better RPI boosts to everyone else when they lose in conference.

We had this long argument that was confusing until I realized that most people on here are focused on
1. Could this team beat UT?
2. Will this team do well in conference and get to the NCAAs?

For instance, to me if LSU has 6 more wins this year, they could be greatly improved, but they still may suck in the SEC and be nowhere close to going to the tournament. Are they better or not? I say yes, but many people say no in that they are not a threat to beat UT and they cannot get to the tournament.

I do think that when the schedules are released, I will be able to predict with reasonable accuracy how most conference teams will do, and I already feel certain that as a conference we will have more OOC wins this year than last.

I really want to pull some kind of rabbit out of the hat with a team from the west, but I just can't say it in good conscious. I think we get 4 teams in, all of them from the East. The 4th team being Vandy or UGA, by holding on just as you suggest.

that's pretty big talk seeing as UF beat your vols by 13-pts in the o'dome and just a missed tyus tip-in from sweeping the vols last year, and seeing as how we return that entire starting 5....i'd say we have as good a chance to win the sec as anybody.
