Early thought: I've seen a lot of Auburn fans and others in the media who are already punching their ticket for Glendale. This whole scenario is way to similar to our own nightmare. So much of the story line (minus the fact that we didn't start a cheater at QB) is Tenn/LSU 2001.

1) Teams played earlier in the year, and the favored team in the championship game won at home.

2) The underdog had 3 losses, but was really playing well at the end of the year, and was completely under the radar.

3) The favored team had a brutal rivalry game the week before that took all they had to pull out a win.

4) The favored team wins, and they are in the NC game, but like always in football...it can be difficult to beat the same team twice in one season.

who knows what will happen next saturday, but we have seen this scenario before....just sayin'

As much as I don't want to listen to USC Jr., I want Auburn to lose very badly.

Auburn getting blind-sided by SCjr would bring me unmeasurable joy. I want them to share in the misery we had in '01.

We did not have a Cam Newton in 2001.

SC will play them close, but short of the unlikely event of the 'AA ruling Cam ineligible, Auburn is going to win this one.

If he can will his team to victory against Saban's defending national champion Tide in Tuscaloosa, nobody can stop him. Nobody.

I wouldn't say "nobody". Maybe nobody's stopped him yet, but it's not like he's Superman or anything like that.

The way that they're going in does not bode well for them. I've been saying the past month or so that this would be a hard two game stretch, and that was before the allegations. The silver lining for them is that SC's secondary is no good. I expect them to establish themselves through the air to start out.

Bad news is that they are just as susceptible.

The NCAA wants to speak with you...

I have a feeling Spurrier is going to win it this weekend. It will be hard to beat him twice in one season. After the emotional comeback, will they have anything left in the tank?

Spurrier is a Legend. I see him becoming a USCjr hero this weekend.

SC is the more complete team. If they can figure out how to stop SCam, they'll win this game. I think they do.

I don't see what a game in 2001 has to do with anything, but I agree that South Carolina is not just going to lay down and give the championship to Auburn.

It doesn't, just a very similar situation that we didn't handle very well. Here is the reality: Its very hard - even for great teams - to get up for 2 huge games in a row. Beating Bama took all they had, we will see what they got left. In '01 after we beat Florida in the swamp, we had nothing left in the tank against LSU. And we were a better team than this Auburn team is, and South Carolina is better than that LSU team was.

This might not be a popular opinion around here, but I hope Auburn crushes South Carolina. What difference does it make? If these allegations turn out to be true, they're going to be stripped of this entire season a few years down the road anyway. I will admit Spurrier's done a fine job, but I still hate South Carolina and their fans with a seething passion. And I still want their dreams to get crushed so they will learn their place, which is still, and always will be, a haven for mediocrity just a hair above Kentucky and Vandy.

This USCjr team isn't even in the same ballpark as the 2001 LSU team. That LSU team would beat this year's Gamecocks by 17+.

We were better than this Auburn team in 2001. The SEC is certainly down at the top end this year, if not down top to bottom.

I'm going with Auburn all the way in this one. Great teams don't lose the KY or get blown out by Arkansas. Plus Auburn get an extra day to rest.

that LSU team had a better defense. But LSU didn't have close to the offensive weapons that South Carolina has.

When I scrolled over the thread title in the forum and caught your first couple of sentences, I thought Tennessee vs. LSU, 2001. Nice comparison. Teams have different strengths and weakness, but the circumstances are eerily similar.

No way. Same deal as last years big xii title game -- if auburn goes down, tcu will take their place.

I wouldn't be willing to bet the farm on that happening. If the SECCG is well played, goes down to the wire, and Auburn loses by a last second field goal, I could easily see them drop no farther than #2. Fair or not, that's a highly possible, if not probable, outcome. That being said, I'd be pulling for TCU to get the shot. Auburn should be penalized with a loss, just as Boise State was or Oregon would have been.
