SEC coach to quit per Sports by Brooks

Why would an underling have major issues with an athletic director?

Humongous ego. He is an underling in title only...Muschamp said as much when Weis was hired by admitting that his own expertise in offensive football was limited.

IF (huge if) this is true at all, my guesses are (in order of likelihood):
1) Mullen
2) Spurrier
3) Petrino

I still don't buy it though.

All SEC coaches have ego's, but all are still a dim shade to the ego of Spurrier. He is only one who would just quit, take his ball, go home, and smile about it.

Tough to call. Plenty of people over in gatorland not happy with Weiss. Or moosecamp either. My guess would be Charlie. He's large profile (in more ways than one). Still collecting a check from Notre Dame through 2015 so he ain't hurting for $$. Rumor floating over in FSUland that some gator boosters - big $$ doctors - want Weiss gone. Take the rumor for WIW since it came from FSUland.

Believe it or not, Florida has been averaging almost exactly as much offense as we have and only a couple more points a game over the last four.

And not to mention that UF basically loses it's entire offense next year. Rainy - Demps - Brantley. Duboise can be solid at times, but that's about all they have on offense (returning). Rainy is questionable this week against Vandy and my guess is he won't play unless absolutely needed. IMO, UF's offensive future is not looking to bright which only enhances the rumor that CWeiss may not be able to stick around. CW is not the highest paid OC in the SEC, but he's up there. Up until last week he was on the sidelines, and correct me if I'm wrong, but during the GA game wasn't Charlie up in the booth? Away from moosecamp.

Mullen, Nutt, Phillips, and Franklin aren't considered high profile so that rules them out. Richt is off of the hot seat in my opinion. LSU and BAMA would be crazy if they got rid of Miles and Saban. Spurrier has taken SC to the SEC Championsip for the first time, has a top 10 ranking, and could very well do it again- I don't think it will be him even IF there are problems with the AD. My two guesses are Muschcamp or Petrino. Muschcamp looks like a serial killer, nobody seems happy in Florida, and they aren't getting it done. With Petrino, he was hired to cross the hump into the elite of the west. He has got them to the top of the hump, but can't seem to cross over the other side. Those are my two guesses. I wish it was Phillips though. lol

IMO any sec football coach is relatively high profile

Agreed...Spurrier has probably been the best thing to happen to Carolina football. If there was some sort of dissension between he and the AD, the AD would probably get the boot first. Spurrier will leave Carolina on his terms (and he'll be 67 next year, so that may not be far off).

Petrino might make sense, but not because of on-field results. Arkansas is coming off a BCS bowl and is in the top 10 without it's most explosive player. There's 117 other FBS teams that would finish behind Bama and LSU this year too.

Muschamp is the wild card. He's extremely early into his tenure, but he's so volatile that it's not hard to see him butting heads (maybe literally) with Foley. Plus, Florida could absorb the recruiting/attrition hit from having 3 coaches in 3 years a lot better than a program like UT. Foley might not hesitate if their relationship is deteriorating and they finish 6-6.

Weis was my first guess. And he is about as "high profile" as any of the other coaches, and would have a job as an OC in the NFL the day after he quit. I hear the 'Fins are in the market for a head coach...
