SEC Contraction

I'm saying, these schools don't make decisions based on bull**** like "tradition". They make decisions based on money.

Right but the comparison you made pretty much came across as " well Syracuse left the big east because the ACC offered them more money, therefore the SEC would kick out Vanderbilt for monetary reasons"....

Nobody is saying that Vandy would choose to leave the SEC. But tradition is bull****, and the only thing that matters is money.

until vandy starts making them lose money (they're not and haven't been) then they won't boot them

League likes the bit of academics they bring amongst all these schools and they do have furthered protection as a founding member of the conference

I agree. Vandy isn't going anywhere. But it's not because of tradition, it's because of money

Vandy was one of the original founders.
What does that have to do with anything? They're dead weight.

It also just so happens to help bring up the entire league in terms of how we look for graduating and GPA.

So? All of this conference realigning and reshuffling has nothing to do with graduation rates and GPAs. Who the hell cares about graduation rates except a bunch of Northeastern media pundits, anyways?

The big ten seems to be the only conference actually taking academics and tradition into consideration.

It appeals a bit to the university presidents making the votes; these teams are all tied to academic institutions

One of the reasons WVU is falling off the map with everyone

A+ post. It is the tradition. The SEC does not want Kentucky to leave it for the basketball tradition, revenue and interest it generates.

Charter members don't get kicked, period.

I love how nobody understands the tradition of the SEC.

Vandy was one of the original founders.

It also just so happens to help bring up the entire league in terms of how we look for graduating and GPA.

They are always good in basketball and baseball.

They will never leave the SEC.

Sure would have been nice to kick out any two of the Vandy, USC or MSU schools and gotten this league down to a 10 team league. Everybody plays 9 conference games in a round robin format and you pick the winner of the conference that way.

Oh well...

No way I'd give Vandy the boot. They have as much right to exist as anyone else in the conference.

I like how you take all the posts about how much we don't want Vandy to leave, and you turn them into why the SEC doesn't want UK to leave. Feeling a bit inadequate during football season?

Not that I would want UK to leave. Vandy and UK are our only guaranteed football victories in the conference.

You might as well get over kicking anyone out; it's not going to happen.

I really don't think anyone will be, or could be, kicked out of the SEC because they aren't good. It would have to be backed by statistics like student population, average crowd size, competitiveness across all sports etc. Even after all that, I find it hard to believe that Vandy would be kicked out in favor of another team. They are a founding member of the conference and really make the conference look better because of their academic prestige.

How hard would it be to kick Vandy out if we add aTm? What are the legal hurdles? How many votes would it take?
How many times a year do we hear this idiotic question? I bet 10 times a year.

Vanderbilt is a founding charter member of the SEC and can not be forced out of the league.
