SEC Defensive Schemes (4-3 / 4-2-5 vs 3-4)

Vol fans pridefully demmanded titles for years with CPF. After 5 illustrious years of the Hambone Experiment this fanbase has become much more humble in regards to expectations. Much more. See 2014 hopes and expectations.

We "demanded", expected is more accurate, them because they were a real possibility and well within our reach. In those days, if we lost a game to anyone, it was a shock to us. Hoping for a bowl game and people saying Utah State will be close just shows how bad things can get. I was a teenager when we won the NC and I am still amazed that we have fallen this far for this long.
Hindsight is 20/20. Fulmer spoiled us for years and I appreciate that but don't be naive into thinking it was unrealistic. The opportunity was there every year. I never would have thought we would be sitting at home in January, let alone December at any point under any coach. It happened though and that has lowered the expectations.
The 2014 hopes and expectations is sadly where we are. The 2001 hopes and expectations were happily where we were. Humbled yes but the expectations were realistic then and they are now. With CBJ's current recruiting those expectations are set to return. Here is to being disappointed at losing in the SEC championship game instead of carrying players off the field against UAB or applauding when we almost win against Georgia!

:clapping:however I do believe the UGA game was a turning point for us under CBJ. I totally understand what you are saying, but I think you were very proud of our team after the UGA game just like every true Vol fan. The turn around in that game proved CBJ knows what he's doing. We would have laid down in the 3rd quarter with Dooley coaching. No more docile football teams! Big change.

Jancek's scheme didn't do that much better.

While I'm not crazy about jancek as a DC, you can't discount:

* Losing 2 DTs early on in the season (Saulsberry and Couch)

* Having absolutely zero LB depth and what would have likely been your best LB out (Maggitt). You have to convert 2 safeties for OLBs. Dooley recruiting a whopping 4 LBs in 3 years. 4. And one of those was Maggitt.

* You have zero depth at CB. Mike Williams and Rihayd Jones, both projected starters, are out for the year. You have to start walk-ons at Nickel and play a Nickel at boundary CB.

And that's what you're left with. A rickety and depthless Defense with very little depth, talent and speed.

I think Muschamp as DC might have been able to barely squeeze out 400ypg conceded.

On top of all that we had no team speed, no consistent offense to keep the defense off the field, and a DC who couldn't even take chances because he realized it would only do more damage to us. If we run QB spy cover twos all year this year then I will be calling for a change soon. You just can't fault any of our staff last year when you realize what they had to work with.

Don't you know that we except the top defense in the nation every year regardless of the talent level

To this day, I've never seen anything that overwhelmed an opposing team like Chavis' Prowler defense in 2001 against Florida. Sure, it may be too gimmicky to use in every game or with less talented players, but for one game it was a thing of beauty.
