Breakdown of the SEC East Race:

FL: 6-2, 8 games left
Home games left: Alabama, Vandy, TN, Kentucky
Away games left: Kentucky, UGA, LSU, Miss St

TN: 5-3, 8 games left
Home games left: UGA, Vandy, Miss St, Alabama
Away games left: Ole Miss, Kentucky, Florida, South Carolina

KY: 5-3, 8 games left
Home games left: Florida, Tennessee, LSU, UGA
Away games left: Arkansas, Vandy, South Carolina, Florida

South Carolina: 6-3, 7 games left
Home games left: Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee
Away games left: Alabama, Miss St, Vandy, UGA

TN is still very much in the race and has the easiest home schedule of all 4 teams, but the toughest road schedule going to all 3 East teams still in the race.

So who wins the East and with what record?

Being optimistic I'd like to say USC has a pretty darn good shot at the east. We just need to take care of business at home (at least split UK/UT and beat Ark) and hopefully win all four on the road, with possibly a loss to Miss St. I think USC has the easiest schedule remaining, but I wouldn't count out FL at all. It's pretty much a toss up between all four teams with USC having a slight edge because of schedule.

I'm sick of projected who will win this, who will win that. Truthfully this team just needs to go out and win whatever games it can. We will learn to accept the auburn loss and I'm sure CBP will have the team ready for next game. We WILL make the tournament (and dont say "which tournament, the NIT?" cuz thats driving me crazy. NO NOT THE NIT THE NCAA) and bruce will have this team reaching its full potential once we get there, what the teams potential is is a whole different argument. I live in MD and even though I'm a vol fan first, I was raised to root for UMD and Georgetown and trust me we are in MUCH better shape then them. Everyone please chill.

Dude I have predicted us to make the NCAA tourney all season long and still believe we will. If you are sick of projections, then please ignore my post and don't reply. I would like to get other fans thoughts on the SEC East race, as there are 4 teams in contention. This will matter as to what seed we get in the SEC tourney, and if we need another win then being a 3 seed and getting the worst SEC West team might not be too bad. Yet of course I want us to win the East! Go Vols!

I'm sorry it wasn't meant to come off as trashing your post. Just more as a general post replying to all negative posts. I hate people that praise the team when we win and hate them when we lose. There are good and bad aspects to our play every game. I'm not arguing that the SEC east race is important just that there is really no way to predict it. Example - UTK's loss to auburn today.

I think all four of those teams will finish with 10-11 wins in the SEC, and tiebreakers will determine the seedings for the SECT. The overall regular season champion is going to be LSU, mainly because they play in the West.<br />

We could have really helped ourselves by not losing at Auburn, but we'll still be in decent shape in the East if we win both games this week.

If we lose a game this week, we'll have bigger problems than staying in the East race.

We need to:

A) Go out and start taking care of business

B) Don't worry about what other teams are doing

Thats about it.

Florida ends up 10-6.
UT ends up 11-5.
Ky ends up 9-7.
South Carolina ends up 11-5.

UT wins the tiebreaker.

All four, plus LSU, make the NCAA tournament.

UT or South Carolina wins the SEC tournament.

No SEC team makes it to the Sweet Sixteen.

I was thinking this until we went belly up at auburn. 11-5 is more optimistic than i am at this point.

I will go ahead and predict the final standings:

1. Florida- 11-5
2. South Carolina 11-5
3. Tennessee 10-6
4. Kentucky 10-6
5.Vandy- who cares
6. UGA they are awful

These records probably aren't even possible, but if it is, I think UF and USC have the easiest remaining schedules. However, UF has LSU still while USC got them over with a long time ago. I think UT and UK will take care of business somewhat, one of them will probably be 9-7. As mentioned in my previous post, if USC can get at least 5 out of 7 against Arky, Vandy, UGA, Bama, UT, UK, and Miss. ST. we should be in good shape. By the way, if anyone knows it would be appreciated . . . if two teams tie with the same league record and split the regular season series, who gets the higher seed in the SEC tourn?

Tennessee.

No - but I'm pretty sure it's eastern division record next... and we've lost to two western division opponents and Kentucky.

Nobody will win it. It's who will lose it.

This one of the most true statements I have seen in awhile. As evidenced so far this season, UT, UK, SC, Florida, ALL have the ability to lay an egg. Whoever sucks it up the rest of the way out without a huge letdown is the winner. Personally, (going with rational judgement instead of emotion) I think it comes down to UT and/or SC as the regular season champ. The tourney is up for grabs. This is a crazy season in the SEC, to say the least.

Big win for you guys last night, brings it to an even keel in conference again...if yall lost that last night it might have become a 3 team race.

Definately would have. That was a must win game, especially after Patrick went down. Depending on how long he is out, only time will tell. If we lose 2 more SEC games, then I feel like we have to win the SEC tourney to get in. Although It kinda seems that way for the 4 teams in the SEC east thats tied for the lead. 5 league losses is enough to keep any of us out of the tourney this year, although UT has the edge I think with the RPI and strength of schedule. The game at Rupp between us should be VERY important, assuming we both hold serve the rest of the way.

I think PP injury may linger - one of those injuries that just keeps coming back. I think he plays most of the games - but don't see him playing as his usual self.
