As we discussed in another thread, its likely that Harris and Jones/Knight will swap this award week by week. Just thought we could keep a running total during the season, along with any discussion that comes along with it. It is exciting as the two of them are on a collision course this season.

Week 1: Terrence Jones

Kentucky’s Terrence Jones was named SEC Freshman of the Week after registering 25 points, 12 rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks in a season-opening win over East Tennessee State.

Week 2: Tobias Harris

Tobias Harris was named SEC Freshman of the Week in men's basketball for two victories in the NIT Season Tip-Off South Regional. Harris led the Vols in scoring and rebounding with 16 points and seven rebounds in UT’s first-round win over Belmont last Tuesday. In the regional title game against Missouri State one day later, Harris had a team-high 15 points to lead the Vols into Wednesday’s semifinal game against Virginia Commonwealth at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Week 3: Terrence Jones

Kentucky’s Terrence Jones was named SEC Freshman of the Week after averaging 23.0 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.3 blocks in games against Oklahoma, No. 13 Washington and UConn at the EA Sports Maui Invitational. An all-tournament selection, Jones scored in double digits in all three games in Hawaii, while posting double-doubles in two of the three games, including his second 20-10 game of the season. His 29 points against Oklahoma tied for second most points in a game by a UK freshman in school history.

Week 4: Tobias Harris

Tennessee’s Tobias Harris was named SEC Freshman of the Week after scoring a game-high 21 points, surpassing the 20 point mark for the first time in his career while also leading the team in steals with three.
His six rebounds were second-most among all Vols, and he also dished out a season-high three assists and added a blocked shot. For the season, Harris leads the Vols in scoring (16.7 ppg) while ranking second in rebounding (5.8 rpg).

Week 5: Brandon Knight

University of Kentucky point guard Brandon Knight on Monday was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week. Knight averaged 19 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in UK’s wins against Notre Dame and Indiana. Knight was 10-for-10 from the free-throw line against the Hoosiers and has made 19 of his past 20 free-throw attempts.

Week 6: Doron Lamb

Jones and Harris are the real deal. It appears that Jones is the better overall player at this time. He also seems to be very focused on getting his points at the expense of team play.

Jones will be a lot better if he'll stop settling for the three. He's got a complete game but takes wayyy too many three points shots for someone with his skill set.

I think Jones is slightly the better player, but I also think its the circumstances in which each team needs to utilize their talents. UK's supporting cast around Jones can score and score in bunches, but he is the facilitator of the offense. Without him in the game, everyone saw what happened against UConn. He needs to go to the rim all the time like he does, but eventually needs to learn how to kick it out rather than taking those running fall away one handers (even though he makes quite a few). His shot selection from the perimeter must also be improved.

Harris' game is just as good, but in a different fashion. If Bruce made it a focal point and ran the offense through Harris, I imagine their statlines would me very similar. Jones is obviously quicker and more agile on the perimeter, but both guys can carry teams, and they will have to for both teams to prosper.

He is just such a mis-match for anyone that guards him, I believe his determination to score gets the best of him sometimes.

That being said, he is shooting 46% from behind the arc.

He needs to take a couple just to keep the defense 'honest' but him jacking threes means less rebounding influence on a team that still has some issues inside.

A point of concern for Cal should be the way some games are being officiated. Lots of touch fouls are being called and he has no depth. Going to be interesting to see if he can adjust to the officiating in certain games or if he does the usual and gets a tech and yells obscenities the rest of the game.

Jones is more athletic and bigger, but I think Tobias has a more well-rounded game. But I'd take either one in a heart beat.

Do yall have Pitt this week? If so, how he plays in that game can very well put him in the ROY hunt nationally.

Don't know how Harris got it over Lamb but I guess they want it to alternate between Tobias and UK. Cool nonetheless.

Tobias had a really good game and they won. Lamb played well against UNC but lost. My only estimation.

I think Jones and Harris play identical, except their game is a little different and they are coached differently. They look like twins though, except their face looks different and one is darker than the other.

Exactly! That's what I have been trying to say all along. Combo that with the fact that they have a little Shaquille O'Neal in their game.
