University of Kentucky point guard Brandon Knight on Monday was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week. Knight averaged 19 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in UK’s wins against Notre Dame and Indiana. Knight was 10-for-10 from the free-throw line against the Hoosiers and has made 19 of his past 20 free-throw attempts.
Week 5 goes to Knight who put in two solid games. Had Jones not laid an egg against IU, it probably goes back to him. Breaks the flip Harris/Jones flip flop, for now.
Knight can really stroke it. I am not impressed with his shot selection, but he is probably the best long ball shooter in the conference that I have watched thus far.
The Knight-Goins matchup will be interesting.
It could be what decides the game, Knight is a good player, but given his body of work so far we know he has almost no chance at taking Melvin to the basket, so he will be settling for contested jumpers. If Knight gets frustrated and jacks up too many it could be the difference maker. On the flip side, he could just make those contested jumpers much like a certain SG we had here at UT.
Honestly, I expect Goins to annoy the hell out of Knight. It's what Melvin does best, and he frustrates opposing guards into jacking up shots. Knight better be ready to play, because Melvin we'll be in his grill the whole game.
