SEC Homerism......

just a fact.. no other conference has to play the level of talent the SEC does. Look at our schedule this year. on a down year at that.. but we played the best college football teams in the Nation.

The SEC claims 35 NC's, but the SEC really started to dominate since one vs. two bowl game started in 1992 with Alabama over Miami. Before that the best SEC team didn't always get an opportunity.

Do you know much about Ga Southern football? I have no idea why any FBS team would ever schedule them. That offense is crazy to try and stop.

I would never play Georgia Southern if I were an NFL team. that offense is just... despicable. Because you spend an entire week trying to prepare for something you will never see again. I would run the hell out of it at the high school level. It'd just take two athletes on the offensive side really.

I've spent the last seven years hating on SEC homers here and even I think the BCS got the title game right.

I despise Bama....but they are the second best team in the country. It would be great if teams from other conferences would just stop choking in NC games.

I think fans in are pissed because of the way that Bama and LSU win football games.

it does suck that this game will ruin the SEC's perfect streak in BCS national champ games

is embarrassing. I'll bet that over 3/4 of all the people that want to see an all SEC NCG have never even been outside of the the southeastern US. I love the SEC, but I hate ignorance. They do play football outside of our region. I know certain people that do not have a life outside of football, or they are so full of foolish pride that they are unwilling to imagine that other teams that do not belong to the SEC are good. The biggest challenge that comes with playing a bowl game against a member of another conference is that they usually play a different style with different schemes that teams are not used to playing in their own conference. Why do you think that Bama "struggled" with Georgia Southern. If GS would have had better athletes, or would have been named Michigan, Oregon, or USC, then we would have been having a different conversation this morning. My fellow Southerners, do not let blind pride and prejudice get the best of you. You only make a fool out of yourselves.

I am, at least, one exception to your "never been outside the Southeastern US" rule. I'm sure there are many others here. I travel quite frequently on business and pleasure. But the facts are that LSU has beaten every team that they've played pretty handily, with the exception of Bama. They beat #3 Oregon, for example, 40-27. LSU is clearly the best team in college football this season, subjectively or otherwise. And Bama is clearly the second best, having only one loss to the #1 team by 3. Has nothing to do with who's traveled where. Has to do with the best two teams in the country, on paper and otherwise. Whether we like them or not, they both deserve to be where they are and play for the title game. It's not the best scenerio for college football this year, but it's the only fair one. No other team can make a case for being in the NC game that's better that LSU's and Bama's. :hi:

I'm not talking about who deserves to go to the title game. That's not my call. I'm talking about Vol fans and fans of other SEC teams who incessantly cheer for their supposed rivals in the name of the conference. I just don't agree with it. :twocents:

I'm not quite sure I follow your logic. Why would an SEC fan pull for another conference to beat a team from their own conference? If a Big 12 school beats an SEC school, doesn't that hurt the conference's status a little, and thus all the schools therein?

If other conferences wanted a plus-one, they should have listened to the SEC:

In 2008, commissioner Mike Slive pitched a so-called “plus-one” plan that essentially was a four-team playoff using existing bowl games. Other than the ACC, the other conferences not only summarily rejected the plan, they refused to even discuss its details.

“I remember it being a lonely meeting,” Slive said Saturday. “That’s all I want to say about it.”

So don’t hate on the SEC for this, correct?

“That’s for you to conclude,” Slive said, with a smile. “That’s not me saying it.”

Slive is humble guy, a genteel 71-year old, almost allergic to trash talk. Besides, he doesn’t have to say it because in this case, to the rejected go the spoils. Sticking with a simple 1-2 matchup in the BCS title game has proven to be a boon for the SEC and a disaster for just about everyone else.

Since when is truth=homerism? The SEC is, and has been for a long time, THE premier conference in college football.
Why is it other conferences are making radical changes to their memberships? They are scrambling to catch up to the SEC.
If the Big XII or southwest conference was so great, why have they dissolved (or nearly dissolved). Twice.

Tell me again when the last team from the PAC 10 won the BCS and got to keep it?

When was the last title won by the Big 10? 2002?

It's just the truth. The SEC is the big dog right now and it doesn't look to change anytime soon. The SEC has won all but 6 BCS titles since the BCS format started.

I understand what you are saying, but fact of the matter is Oklahoma State lost to Iowa State Cyclones.

Alabama lost to LSU by 3 in OT. LSU has dominated every opponent but Alabama.

Oklahoma State would have been in had they not lost to an unranked team. In 2004, an SEC team, Auburn, got shafted out of a National Title game. They were undefeated and handily beat us in the SEC championship game. I wholly believe they would have won the National Title game (campbell, cadillac, brown).

I'll agree with you there. I've never gotten the "I cheer for the SEC" crowd. I want them all to lose.

Same here. I pull for Tennessee & anybody that plays USCjr or UF. Don't care much for the others but those are my top 2 I hate. There's no "I pull for SEC" here.

So you are one of the guys suggesting that Ok St should play? why? They lost to Iowa state they are not deserving enough to play in the NC. Get over it. Bama and LSU would wax every team in college football.

Way too much emphasis has been, and usually is, placed on who had the "better" loss. Oklahoma State played a tougher overall schedule than Alabama. The debate should really end there. And, if it's close, the nod should go to the team that won its conference.

IMO, the voters made a terribly incorrect decision to choose Bama over Oklahoma State.

SEC has always dominated. ESPN did that list of 1-120 top programs and the SEC had like 8 of the top 25 (and we're now adding TAMU). My Dad grew up in the west, and he's always had the belief that you can pretty much count on SEC teams to win their bowl games, so it doesn't seem to be some sort of new phenomena.

That being said, people that don't think there's good football in other conferences are stupid. I wanted to see LSU/Okla St, but honestly I think Bama is probably the 2nd best team.
