SEC honors for the good guys

KC has more total rebounds, steals, and blocks than ZZ.

I think any of these three KC, ZZ, or JJJ were all deserving of being All Defensive team.

JJJ was 14th in rebounds, 10th in blocks and 14th in steals based on the per game sorting.
KC was 1st in steals
ZZ was 9th in steals

If anything you could make a stronger case for JJJ...I'm actually more disappointed he got no love than anything else. He's 42nd even in PPG, so in every major category he's top 15 (except) scoring but couldn't even make a 2nd team or all-defensive team?

JJJ has been great for us this year, but he is all around a good player. A jack of all trades. But, If you are looking at position by position or skillset by skillset, he doesn't stand out and above in any singular way.

There are elite shot blockers, elite rebounder who got placed above JJJ. If you compare him with his peers in similar roles, he was good but didn't outperform them. But if you are looking at PGs perimeter defense, ZZ is the best in the conference. That's why he was voted in. There is no one in the conference or maybe the country that can defend in that role as good as him.

KC and JJJ being excluded from All-Defense is almost criminal. KC tied for the SEC lead at 2.2spg and JJJ guards 1-5 on the court. JJJ doesn’t have the steals or blocks to stack up with the leaders but he does everything that doesn’t show up on traditional box scores. They both have 2.0 Defensive Win Shares so at least one of them should have been on list ahead of Keon Ellis, who only has a 1.2 Defensive Win Share. KC definitely got snubbed.

We have some of the most ignorant posters that drive through. SV first team selected by the league coaches yet last year There were many disparaging his lack of athleticism, inability to dribble to his right, and complete lack of ability to guard the perimeter. Stand up and own it if you were one of ‘em

This comes across as a bit sanctimonious imo.

I think Vescovi deserved 1st team; other coaches scheme hard to keep him from taking over games and he plays really well defensively and rarely turns the ball over. Also rebounds well for a guard.

I agree. If I had to pick only 1 vol for 1st team, it’d be Vescovi. He warps defenses with his gravity. Doesn’t have to even get the ball to open up for his teammates.

I think Santi is great and earning first team is well deserved.Just don't understand wanting non-Santi fans to prostrate themselves before us lol.
Same reason so many of the regulars here get tired of the drive by posters dogging KC who’s also an all SEC performer - get tired of reading the stupidity. Nobody is going to stand up and admit they were wrong if that’s what you were thinking

Top 15 in rebounds, steals and blocks per game doesn't stand out? He's one of only 3 players in the SEC that did that. The other two (Oscar & Eason) both made First Team All-SEC and won other awards.

Especially if you look to the numbers he had in conference play.

In SEC Play: 14.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.3 spg, 0.4 bpg

bold = higher than season averages

congratulations to the great honors. I have no idea how Vescovi gets first team over Chandler. Chandler was more impactful to the team, and that's no knock on Vescovi. I guess one's a freshman, but that shouldnt play a part in deciding who gets 1st/2nd team.
I don't see that as you do. Is he more athletic, yes. When Vesvovi goes to the bench the team does not play nearly as well. Vescovi pretty much has make his own shot most of the time but he also set's up so many with his assist, and the way he handles the game while he is in the game. Sometimes it's more than the athlete, but the player . I personally think that both deserved it, and I would have been happy with either, but that is just one mine take

I mean...Santi only had 5 games where he failed to score in double digits all year.

2 of them were games he didn't even have to suit up for (ETSU, & USC Upstate). Texas Tech, @ Texas, and @ Arkansas were the other 3 games.

KC had 9 games where he failed to score in double digits. 6 of those were home games at TBA. UNC Greensboro the only game that was against an opponent where he didn't need to play.

If Chandler had played as well all season as he as n the last 8-9 game and hit 75% of his foul shots, he may have made first team. Vescovi has been our best players this year and JJJ has come on really strong during the last third of the season. This teams is just now their best basketball.

Congrats to the ones who received the honors.

For those that were possibly snubbed - time to prove the voters wrong during tourney play

Yeah, but you are obviously leaving out those players offensive contributions as well.

Oscar was 4th in PPG, Eason 6th in PPG, while JJJ was 42nd..

Happy for the guys who were honored but Josiah is the best defensive player we have. Only Richardson & Pons in recent years was as versatile as JJJ.

My original discussion point was why I felt JJJ on our team was the most deserving of the all-defensive team. I pointed out what I consider the 3 most important statistical categories for this opinion (rebounds, steals, blocks).

Had JJJ averaged as many points as Santi or KC he likely is on the first or second team. But he didn't, so I'm just focusing on why I think he deserved to be on the all defensive team the most of the players on our team.

Santiago Vescovi: First Team All-SEC

Kennedy Chandler: Second Team

Kennedy and Zakai Zeigler: All-Freshman Team

Zakai also got All-Defensive Team

I'm surprised JJJ didn't land on one of these teams because of his versatility on both ends.

Right now they are mad. You have already seen some disparaging remarks in the thread about him. You'd think they were a SEC coach or something.
