Entering SEC Play there are six teams ranked in the top 25 South Carolina, Miss State, Kentucky, Texas A&M and Missouri.

1. Can we beat these teams?

2. What do you feel are these teams strengths and weakness?

3. Where do you expect the Lady Vols to finish?

4. Which Lady Vols will be an ALL SEC performer?

I'm thinking were going to lose 4 or 5 games this SEC season and finish anywhere from 3 to 5. Missouri is a big game as we have a lot of tough road games this season and this is one where we have the talent advantage but they are far better coached and understand how to play as a team.
Losses to SC, At Ky, At Mississippi State and we have never lost to them, tossups Vandy, A&M, and Missouri on the road.
SC should be the best team in the SEC they have a power post game and good perimeter players. Point guard seems to be their biggest weakness. They will pound it inside on us and we want have an answer. I expect we'll get frustrated and start taking a lot of bad shots. Miss St and Kentucky have a balanced attack this season far better post play and excellent perimeter players that they usually have. We have no one that can guard Vivian and Akahtor will be more than a hand full for Graves and Russell.

I think we finish third if we beat Missouri and Vandy on the road. I think we go 8 and 1 at home. Those two road games will determine if we go 6 and 3 on the road or 4 and 5 if we lose both those games. I added A&M as a tossup but I really think the way we are playing now it is a loss.

Diamond will be All SEC don't see anybody else making the first team. Russell may be on the team somewhere or Graves but it will be second or third.

My top five SEC players are Diamond, Vivian of Miss St, Wilson of SC, Walker Texas A&M, and Epps of KY, others Coates, Montgomery, Jackson, Mitchell, and Akahator.

I say we finish 1 or 2 if we can piece an entire game together we have the weapons lets just use them correctly.... Looks like Deshields has found her groove she is really elevating on her shot and it's falling in just fine she needs to now develop a defensive game... Russell needs to get a little bit more aggressive and Bash needs to be a beast.... I see Nared finding her groove once she settles in and doesn't force it... I see her starting over Dunbar.... The new line up should be Carter Deshields Nared Graves and Russell

usc & uk will beat tn like a rented mule. Missouri will probably win there and msu has a much better head coach so tn will be stretched to the limit.
a&m is always tough plus ga & fl are due to win vs tn sometime..

LOOKS LIKE WE ARE DOOMED......... lol

SEC expectations? This could be our worst conference performance in school history. Especially if this lackluster coaching staff can't motivate these young ladies, find the best rotations, teach fundamentals, discipline lack of focus and effort (on the defensive side) and most importantly, instill the pride of being a Lady Vol.

That said, we'll be lucky to finish top four in conference this year. We can't contest the three, find the range (except DD) on offense, play hard for four quarters, and the coaching is subpar high-school level.

But I'll be watching, praying and hoping for the best.

1. Can we beat these teams? Yes, they are more than capable if they continue to improve and play smart.

2. What do you feel are these teams strengths and weakness? Strength is athleticism. Weakness is decision making.

3. Where do you expect the Lady Vols to finish? 2nd but if they continue to improve, they could win the conference.

4. Which Lady Vols will be an ALL SEC performer?
Diamond, Bash, and possibly Andrea. Mercedes could be also if the team jells and goes on a tear. In order for that to happen, I think Mercedes has to own the post.

If we play like we're capable of playing, we'll finish second. If we play like we've been playing, we'll finish in the middle of the pack.

Diamond is a given. Bashaara could be 1st or 2nd team. Cooper for All-Freshman team.

Carter may get a nod for All-Defensive team at best.

No way Mercedes gets post-season awards this year. Next year, I like her chances.

Hello, everyone. First post here.

Obviously DeShields is feeling much better, and I am thrilled that she's willing to shoot, and shoot, and shoot -- especially since she's hitting so many of those shots.

I have to admit, though, that I worry that DD taking so many more shots than everyone else could eventually cause some jealousy. I have no reason to suspect there has been any of that yet, so no, I have not heard any rumors.

But I do know that Bashaara Graves hardly ever gets touches anymore even though our offense is supposedly meant to get it inside first. My fear is that resentment could slowly build, even if the posts don't now feel like they are the type of people who'd ever have those feelings.

Graves is a senior, and she works hard. Yet, she's really not getting to have much fun out there. The most fun she appeared to have the other night was when she finally got to have possession of the ball for a few seconds, going from end-to-end for a score. I had to wonder if she was thinking, "I guess the only way I can be assured I'll be in on the offense is if I never give it over to our guards!"

As for the SEC, I'm guessing Tennessee will finish third.

really appreciate bash's effort but she'll be hard pressed to play as well as she did her fr year

It's difficult for her to score as much when she's not shooting as much. Is there anyone here who doesn't think she should be getting the ball more?

this is the last warning your going to get gule and I'm dead serious, you leave the poor mules out of it :) ,got it ? :hi:

1 I think the Lady Vols can win any game there in,as long as the poor shooting and turn over happy team doesn't show up

2 weaknesses are way to many turnovers, poor judgement on taking shots and passing, they will have to play better against 3 point shooters the rest of the year

3 I'm not good at guessing where they should finish, but hopefully in the top 3 before the SEC Tournament

4 so far it has to be Deshields, she is starting to look pretty consistent on her shot selection, hopefully the rest of the team will get it together also,Graves can get there and so can Mercedes, there is enough time left for some others to get into the consideration also, hopefully Nared can shake the rust off and do better too

I'm thinking SEC teams will play zone against UT maybe not UK....but until we prove we can consistently hit outside shots....teams would be crazy not to play anything but a zone

Welcome to the board lvocd :hi:

there won't be any jealousy if others would make some shots consistently, they will keep going to her unless somebody else steps up and makes some shots and she will need some others to step up and help take the pressure off of her

I'm not sure why they aren't going to Graves more than they have been.it could be the defenses are keying on her more ?

Excellent points. Against a good team like MD, should DD drop 30, they will lose because the rest of the team will be shut down by MD defense. This occurred a few years ago when Jewell Loyd of ND dropped 31 on UCONN and lost. It is a team game and the coaches must provide the opportunities to score whether man to man or zone. Did I say it is a team game? UCONN had a similar opponent this week and a similar result. Lopsided win. The really special stats from this game was 8 players in double figures and A/T = 25 - 7. With strategic passing, layups or short pull ups in the paint can result.
I'm sorry, I sound like a coach which I am not. Happy New Year to everybody..................
