SEC Play Expectations???

I say we finish 1 or 2 if we can piece an entire game together we have the weapons lets just use them correctly.... Looks like Deshields has found her groove she is really elevating on her shot and it's falling in just fine she needs to now develop a defensive game... Russell needs to get a little bit more aggressive and Bash needs to be a beast.... I see Nared finding her groove once she settles in and doesn't force it... I see her starting over Dunbar.... The new line up should be Carter Deshields Nared Graves and Russell

Your lineup has possibilities, however, sometimes, in fact a lot, Russell is a liability due to her timid play, always at the top of the paint, and bringing the ball down so smaller players can take it away. She has a lot of things that need to show improvement if we are going to make positive noise in the SEC or the NCAA's. She has to be doing the same thing in practices. Jones, if she ever comes back, may be a better insert due to her aggressive play and the fact she can rebound.

They are 10-3.

If Butch goes 10-3 next year, we will make a statue of him.

Well he just went 9-4 and I'm not hearing whispers of statues just yet. The difference between Tennessee's two historically most successful sports teams is one is clearly trending up and the other is clearly trending down...

I don't believe the sample size is large enough to determine a significant trend….

With everyone healthy, I expect us to go undefeated in SEC play. I believe these ladies are about to embark on a mission to prove themselves.

Hello, everyone. First post here.

Obviously DeShields is feeling much better, and I am thrilled that she's willing to shoot, and shoot, and shoot -- especially since she's hitting so many of those shots.

I have to admit, though, that I worry that DD taking so many more shots than everyone else could eventually cause some jealousy. I have no reason to suspect there has been any of that yet, so no, I have not heard any rumors.

But I do know that Bashaara Graves hardly ever gets touches anymore even though our offense is supposedly meant to get it inside first. My fear is that resentment could slowly build, even if the posts don't now feel like they are the type of people who'd ever have those feelings.

Graves is a senior, and she works hard. Yet, she's really not getting to have much fun out there. The most fun she appeared to have the other night was when she finally got to have possession of the ball for a few seconds, going from end-to-end for a score. I had to wonder if she was thinking, "I guess the only way I can be assured I'll be in on the offense is if I never give it over to our guards!"

As for the SEC, I'm guessing Tennessee will finish third.

Bashaara could get more touches by getting on the offensive boards, like I say you wouldn't neccesarily run plays for her, maybe at the high post, against less athletic 4, but generally no, her skill set is limited.

Plus as a senior you never see her demanding the basketball with her play, good seal, good screens, if Bashaara gets on the boards that could be 5 to 6 more touches right there.

This is Holly's make or break year, when Tennessee was a favorite for the Final Four going into the season. If Holly somehow manages a trip to the Final Four, these early season struggles will be forgiven.

Same goes for Butch next year, which will also be his fourth season, and Tennessee will likely be the favorite to win the East...

diamond is a given. Bashaara could be 1st or 2nd team. Cooper for all-freshman team.

Carter may get a nod for all-defensive team at best.

No way mercedes gets post-season awards this year. Next year, i like her chances.

not sure why mercedes is even on the court. Useless.

Expectations are only a belief…..not an entitlement. I've never believed that fan expectations should be a contract of employment.

And having no expectations is a great way to go through life and never be disappointed.

I've never believed that fan expectations should be a contract of employment.

Fans didn't set the expectation level for this program. And no one was more aware of that than Holly when she took the job...

No one said anything about not having expectations or goals. I doubt that is possible. I read about fans in this forum everyday that are upset because the team is not living up to their expectations and they voice their opinion based on their expectations so it is quiet a reach to say the fans don't set an expectation level.

And I never said fans don't have an expectation level. Of course they do, it's part of being a fan. It's why forums like this exist. What I said was fans didn't dictate the expectations for this program. Pat did that in her almost 40 years of coaching here, and she was vocal about it...

I don't understand why they have Russell at the top of the paint myself, she isn't doing much other than doing a block, she needs to be around the basket, her talent is being wasted standing at the free throw line

I feel she is being misused also... I actually like Russell when she plays with confidence she doesn't know just how good she is, I think her junior year will be her breakout year... She is playing her first full healthy year she's still going to have her trials and tribulations.. But I like her alot she needs to learn to keep the ball high and maintain aggression I love that free throw line and elbow shot of her it's always a bonus when your post can nail that shot... Ruth Riley and Lisa Leslie were very consistent at hitting that shot... I love this team at full force when they are able to piece together an entire game they are going to be deadly..

getting the pieces together is going to be a problem with all the injuries that have happened so far,it is going to be hard to do,but I do think they will pull it all together, but they need to focus and play some damn Lady Vol Basketball for a change, play tuff and smart, kick some butt along the way and smile :)

Just saw the hoop report I really like Dean and he is very clear in his answers... He seems to have a good personality seems like he is good with public speaking and I get a toughness about him also... I could see him as a head coach, I didn't know that he coached the men's team also.... I wonder how he would be as head coach https://youtu.be/W9xASnMBIaI

If Dean was any good as a coach, why is our post game so damn weak and has been since Anosike & Parker left?

No, I don't. Izzy could have been, without the knee injuries. Glory never learned how to shoot the ball. Burdick only shined once we ran out of other options on Offense. her last half of her senior year she actually played well. Baugh, could have been but never was, damn knees! And bash? too short, takes too many plays off(imho) can't score on bigger opponents.

Russell is still to be determined but it's NOT looking good for her. She doesn't play hard at all.
