SEC Position Ranking: RB's

Varying factors depend on how well our RBS do

1) New OLs ability to run block
2) Play Calling
3) Ability of QB to throw the ball

More to it than whether they are talented at the position

True, unfortunately Aschoff failed to mention any of that and instead gave off the impression he got to the end of his post and said "aw sh*t, i forgot Tennessee. Lemme google Rivals or something..."

Guy is useless.

And everyone bashes last season's OL. Those rushing stats will be tough to duplicate considering the OL turnover and loss of Neal.

just bc there is turnover doesnt mean they will be worse. i think run blocking is a strength for this particular group. theres a few real tough guys in this group.

i agree but you still have to acknowledge last yrs group was a little overhyped and still hasnt got a short yardage play despite averaging about 315lbs.

You basing that on the Spring game are you?

If we are that low then mattresses will burn

I don't think there is any question about this. Brand new OL and loss of 1,200 yard rusher = reduced running stats. 2013-14 version of the Vols ran the ball well, to the tune of 190 ypg at over 5 ypc and 17 rushing TD's. Nobody wants to hear it, but it is unlikely the 2014 Vol team matches those numbers on the ground. New lines get ate up in the SEC until they get a season of experience/starting. Lane was backup to Neal for a reason.

SEC meet Mr. Jalen Hurd.

I may be in the boat alone on this one, but I have a feeling Derrell Scott has the potential to upstage even Mr Hurd. He may need to get closer to the 190 lbs range, but I think he has a chance to be great. Any news on him as of late? Thanks.

Who really cares? Lane is unproven. It's the truth. Neal continued to get the nod over Lane and they're not going to rank us higher just cause of Hurd's beastness potential. Rankings like this mean absolutely nothing. All that matters is our production on the field.

Good points ... during the Peyton/Tee yrs, all that passing was complemented by a good ground game and vice-versa

Just not necessarily a good one. :zeitung_lesen:

With Lane, Hurd, Scott and Pickett, I think we are about as good as anyone not named bamer or Georgia. Also Tennessee rush will benefit from a more balanced pass/rush attack. We have better run blockers on the interior and good blocking TEs. RT looks very sound for a Greenhorn.

Even GA has question marks as Gurley wasn't the same after mid-season and Marshall had the ACL. But they did get two great recruits though.

FL has two good ones but at least one is coming off serious injury.

We should be better than UK, Vandy, MSU. Ole Miss and Mizzou. I think we are on par with Ark, FL and USCe.

What does USCe have after Davis? There is a reason they fought us so hard for Scott.

Ark had two rushers that combined for almost 2,000 yards. Nice until you look at yards per carry and the fact that they were an 75/25 rush/pass team.

Edwardo needs to go back to the library and get his facts straight. He didn't even mention Scott who will be as good as Hurd IMO.

On one level, some of these positional ratings are understandable. After all, there are a lot of unknowns about this team. Assumptions that our running game will take a step back because of youth and/or inexperience in the offensive line should be tempered somewhat by the fact that we have a significant infusion of talent and speed at skill positions (most notably Malone, Pearson and Hurd) and the fact that our quarterbacks have a better understanding of our offensive system, better rapport with the receiver corps (and better talent therein) and, by all indications, they have seriously dedicated themselves to improving their skillsets. Last year our passing game did very little to open running lanes for our backs. That will not be the case this year.

On the other hand, Butch is going to have plenty of ammunition to play the "no respect" card in motivating Team 118. Lindy's has both the offensive and defensive lines ranked dead last in the SEC.
