SEC rankings by average commit rating reveal different story for 2019 class

Still think Pruitt slides in the top 5, he can oversell a vision and early playing time, still plenty of meat on that bone. For the big fish, I do think he will need to pull an upset this year to show potential, I’m still going with Auburn. They have not had back to back 10 win seasons and a matter of fact, when they do win 10+, they avg 3 less wins the next year, not like they are sliding down to 9 wins. UGA’s “avg” will go up after tomorrow night. UT’s will go up towards early NSD when the big fish start announcing.

And were in the running for several 5*s and 1/2 dozen or more 4*s.

All we have to do now is prove that we are heading in the right direction on the field and we are in great shape! ...except for uga and bama recruiting so well.

This is just more evidence that there is STILL plenty of talent on this team to win now. Especially against the likes of Vandy, UK, Missouri, SC, etc.

If Pruitt is even competent, he should be able to beat these teams with the current talent on hand.

Granted injuries can change a lot, but right now... we've got talent to win now.

Results > rankings, but rankings have to suffice during the off season.

Not sure why Pruitt isn't doing the same thing seeing as how they both learned from Saban and everyone here says Pruitt is the better coach.

I think this may not be simple as that. Kirby inherited a dysfunctional team that won ten games, then won eight and lost five games getting their heads straight the following year. We know what CJP inherited was worse as a dysfunctional team that won four. While hoping for a miracle, the fact is the defense will be facing an established Big 12 offense in their first game in a new scheme. They will be thinking too much and I fear it has every likelihood of going sour quickly. If it does, is there enough patience to continue running the ball and try to slow the game down?

And then there is a murderer's row of five games that may be the toughest in the country. Best shot there is UF, because by the time they get to USCe, they will be beat to hell physically.

Then a Missouri team that should have a pretty salty defense, but God knows what on offense. UK goes down, but a worn out team may face a wounded Vandy team in the same boat and anything can happen.

Just saying, CJP has his work cutout for him. And the record this year may be horrible but not in anyway reflect the quality of his coaching. I am scared, but hopeful.

Uga played in national championship. Our team went 4-8. Not saying we can’t, but uga has a 2 yr headstart.

He didn't like Pruitt before the hire, didn't like him during the hire, and hasn't liked him since the hire. While everything you said is reasonable, he doesn't seem likely to be convinced by anything that is said on here. I would imagine he is in the wait and see mode which is understandable. However, for some of these guys, wait is defined as reply to any news which may be considered good with a negative comment, then when somebody, like yourself, tries to give reasons why it's not so bad, say they're not convinced yet and want to see results on the field first. Sort of aggressively unenthusiastic if you will. I'm not sure that poster falls into this category, but it wouldn't surprise me if he did. We're close enough to the season where it won't be long before we start seeing what we have now.

I like that description. In that vein, I'd like to see us establish a baseline below which CJP will be on the hot seat entering 2019. Clearly, 4-8 or worse is unacceptable. 5-7 seems like a pretty low mark. Lots of ff posters see 7-9 wins, which I don't. 6-6 seems like a fair bar. I'm not saying fire the man at the end of 2019 but a losing record this year coupled with marginal or no improvement in 2019 should make 2020 a win the east or get fired kind of season, imo.

I think Pruitt will get at least 4 years, if not longer. New AD Fulmer's hand picked guy. He will be given every chance to succeed, and he should.

I agree that he will be given the chance but I (can't believe I'm saying this) agree with Hillbilly on his set bar.

If we have a losing record this year and no/hardly any improvement next? Chances are high that we got a dud.

Wts, no way that happens, this staff has to be legit. I can't handle otherwise lol.

He is a first time head coach. He gets a longer rope and you let him learn. I could see at least 8 years.

There is no way he would be on the hot seat after 1 season unless its some off field controversy or something. So don't get yer hopes up that he will get fired so soon.

He probably gets a longer rope just because he's Fulmer's guy and our instability at AD appears to be over. Having said that, if a coach is going to pan out, you see great improvement by year 3. Even Butch did that in 2015.

Year 3 is almost always enough time to know if your coach is legit or not.

can we, for once, not have a plan for failure ready to go, before we begin?

Seriously...at least let something negative happen first. The man hasn't even started Fall practice, much less coach his first game here, and folks are already setting criteria to put him on a hot seat and fire him. Man, some folks need a new hobby
