SEC Reveals Format for Future Football Schedules

Each SEC team will continue to play eight conference football games per season, to include six games against division opponents and two games against non-division opponents. One of the non-division opponents will be a permanent annual opponent and the other non-division opponent will rotate each year.

In addition, at least one opponent from the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten or Pac-12 must be scheduled by each SEC school on an annual basis beginning in 2016, with assistance from the conference office.....This would be a good chance to renew our old rivalry with UNC every year.

I like the idea of each SEC team having to actually play a worthy opponent. No more cupcakes for all four OOC games (Im looking at you Alabama, Ms. State and Vanderbilt).

Alabama did play Michigan and Vandy played Northwestern - Now watch them both fight over scheduling Indiana as a cupcake game

Alabama has played a non-conference game against a, usually ranked, BCS conference school every year that Saban has been there. Vanderbilt deserves all of the **** you can give them though.

And then, after losing, Vanderbilt promptly cancelled the second game of their Northwestern series via USPS.

So nothing really changes, other than it's now mandated that SEC schools play a BCS team OOC.

Most schools were doing that already.

2007: Florida State in Jacksonville
2008: Clemson in Atlanta
2009: Virginia Tech in Atlanta
2010: Penn State
2011: @ Penn State
2012: Michigan in Dallas
2013: Virginia Tech in Atlanta
2014: West Virginia in Atlanta
2015: Wisconsin in Dallas

If those are "cupcakes", I'd like you to tell me who you think Alabama should be scheduling in order to beef up their SOS. Should Bama schedule a home-and-home with the New England Patriots?

Florida-Florida St
South Carolina-Clemson
Kentucky-Louisville
Georgia-Georgia Tech

Bama, UT, and LSU (lately) usually schedule at least one solid OOC.

So that leaves, TAMU, OM, MSU, Mizzou, Ark, AU, and Vandy.

I wouldn't mind setting up a permanent deal with Va Tech starting with the Bristol game.

Vandy will now be scrambling to schedule Indiana, Kansas, Purdue, and Washington St.

That really is just the Vandy rule and it's usually not any trouble for them to get Wake Forest on their schedule (though even that is tougher than what they would like to play OOC).

I'm so glad the Vols don't have an in-state OOC BCS rival. I like it that we mix it up.

Well, let's take a look at Alabama's schedule this year. The Crimson tide's toughest OOC game comes against an opponent (WVU) who had previously gone 4-8 the year before, with half of their wins coming against FCS programs. The others are as follows- Florida Atlantic, Southern Miss and Western Carolina who combined for an astounding 9-27 record. Couple that with the fact that Alabama consistently plays one of the overall weakest schedules in the SEC year in and year out and it makes it look even worse.

Alabama's OOC opponents win % is only .271, the worst in the SEC. Alabama's opponents win-loss record for 2014 is also the worst in the SEC, standing at 71-79.

So yes, Alabama does indeed play lots of cupcakes.

I was referring to each teams' upcoming schedule this year, but people took it like I meant each and every season.

Then you could have done a much better job at expressing your thoughts. When you say something like this:

...it isn't clear that you only mean 2014.

Bama is playing three cupcakes. Guess who else does that... every team in the SEC, with maybe one or two exceptions.

You can knock on Bama taking on WVU, but when that game was scheduled, they were coming off a conference title and a 40-point win in a BCS bowl. Is it Bama's fault that WVU went in the crapper?

Bama doesn't set their conference slate any more than Tennessee does. The SEC even went out of their way to shift Florida back onto Bama's schedule early in order to keep LSU from pissing and moaning. UF was coming off an 11-2 season when the 2014 schedule was announced. Once again, do you think it's Bama's fault that Florida went in the crapper?

Please, whenever you find it convenient, feel free to stop talking out of your rear end.

I agree with your basic points that any complaints about Alabama's schedule are off base and yet the crap that was going on while there were two permanent inter-divisional SEC opponents still needs to be acknowledged. From 1992 until 2000, Bama had Vandy as well as Tennessee...and Bama's OOC was also garbage in those years as well. Check out Bama's slate for their 1992 Championship team. That schedule was not only crap but the SECCG was also at Legion Field....I can agree that times have changed as far as Bama's OOC is concerned and yet you must understand the widely held perception of Alabama favoritism that SEC fans have.

That still doesn't change the fact that West Virginia is a terrible football team. Other than Vanderbilt, and perhaps Mississippi State, Alabama has the weakest OOC schedule in the SEC and the weakest overall. Just the way it is.

I don't see that he was trying to change that; the point was when the game was scheduled, WV was a good team.

You think people gave Oregon crap because they played us?
