SEC Tournament

Watching AR play lights out basketball. This team is clicking on all cylinders. Vols have to get the mental piece of the game locked in this week and smash the Gators on Sun. If they can't dominate that game, they have no chance in the tournament

I think you swerved into the wrong forum.

Kellie Harper was never in question for me. I knew she’d be an amazing coach. Her track record with coaching is superb! She will be one of only two coaches to take 4 separate schools to the NCAA tournament. What an accomplishment! 3 national titles as a player doesn’t hurt either.
She was for me. I didn’t think this would go well...glad she made me eat crow.

Same here. I wasn't sure it would go well precisely because KJH track record with coaching was NOT superb. It was average, over about 15 seasons. She has definitely risen to the occasion this year, in the most difficult and craziest of seasons. Every reason to be hopeful, especially because she has achieved more player development in two yrs than the previous regime in about a decade.

So with all the consternation over our last coach, are people settling in with Kellie being our longer term answer?
I was cautiously optimistic about the hire.
Feeling very good about it now for three big reasons-
* I see players really improving year over year
* There seems to be an offensive plan and flow
* The kids really seem to be happy, in previous years there seemed to be a heaviness to the kids, perhaps feeling pressure

Hmmm - these results were just a week ago...

February 25, 2021 Arkansas 74 Auburn 69 (Auburn led for most of the 2nd half)

3 days later...

February 28, 2021 Tennessee 88 Auburn 54 (Auburn never led in the game and was outscored in every quarter)

Yep, I know the poster apparently thought they were posting in the men’s forum, but with the Lady Sows being the LV’s likely opponent Friday night, I though this response was appropriate.

Lose to SC in semis. Sorry to be Eeyore, but I'm protecting my oft broken LV heart.

IMO a "decent loss" to SC in the semis preserves a really nice NCAA tourney draw. And a very real opportunity for Sweet 16 ness. And therefore a highly successful season.

Love to see us get 4 more wins to hit 20 for the year. Big accomplishment considering cancelled games.

Can your heart take it if they get to the Championship game ?

I picked us to lose to Arkansas in the first game we play. I hope it don't happen but they really get charged up for the tourney and we'll have to hope they have no legs left by the second half to make those threes. Same as last time will have to pound them on the boards and make the layups when we do.

Just getting to the championship game would make us a three seed and winning the tourney would give us a great shot at a two seed as we'd have to beat possibly two number one seeds and certainly a one and two to do it.

I wanted to wait until the last slate of games and season was over to share some thoughts about this year's team before the SEC tournament. All season long Coach Harper has focused this year's team on "Trust the Process", and that mindset and approach has paid dividends. I believe we really started seeing this team coming into a new level of playing during and post UCONN. They have rounded out to be a solid top 15 team that took another step when they knock off South Carolina who has been ranked as high as #1 this season. This Lady Vols team, when their on, just might be the scariest team in the country to play during tournament season. My hats goes off to the coaching staff as well, because their has been growth there as well. All and all this has be a solid season and second year for Coach Harper, her staff, and team. I think the general consensus of their being a South Carolina - Texas A&M SEC final may be a bit premature if this Lady Vols team is hitting on all cylinders. If we can take care of the ball, get our posts going, hit our 3's not only to open up the paint, but to score, and continue to stress teams defensively, we just might be the surprise of the tournament. LADY VOLS FOR LIFE, GO DO YOUR THING LADYS, DO YOUR THING!!!!!

I hope Kellie's the long term coaching solution, but it's way too early to tell. Results have been decent so far, but more improvement is needed. Recruiting is not up to par with elite teams, but hopefully that will improve in the next couple of years.

it’s improved each season she has been here. So if trends suggest anything it’s up up and away... Plus they’ve been more visible beating ranked teams so it could only help right ? She hasn’t had anyone in the 30s and she got the 33rd player to start off her recruiting cycle. I think there will be really good players to come.
