Do most of you agree that we will be missing a major opportunity by not having a head coach named tomorrow - No matter who it is? This is one of the biggest days of the year for our conference, thus you can't buy that type of advertising with all marketing dollars on the planet (e.g. Gameday coverage, bottom line messaging running throughout the event's broadcasts, half time coverage, et. al). One would have to imagine Dave Hart has placed this idea in the forefront of his mind, however who knows....I must say I'll be kind of shocked if we pass on that opportunity. and of course disappointed if we do. Every recruit in the country will be watching.

I imagine it would be greatly frowned on. OM announce Freeze the Monday after last year. We announced Kiffin the Monday before.

Very good post. To bad we can't make one of the biggest announcements in the last 20 years to take full advantage.

See I was thinking the opposite. If we announced today it would just be swept under the rug and forgotten behind all the drama of tomorrow.

Maybe it's better to wait until things calm down and announce Monday when nothing else is important and they're forced to make a big deal about it.

Just my thoughts...

Saw a press release from the SEC that stated that no team could make an announcement the day before the SECCG. So we would've had to do it yesterday or sooner.

If its the right coach it won't matter when we announce it. Just make it soon enough for the coach to be able to get on the road and recruit.

The most important thing is the hiring.....the right person.....

Certainly agree with you. Perhaps I'm giving the fortitude of our Athletics Department a little too much credit by thinking they had the capacity to capture both agendas in one fell swoop.

I doubt that is true and even if it is I'm sure the fine is minimal.

If so I say we tell the SEC to e.a.d. and drop the news at half time with epic WWE style promotions and a press conference.

Agree

I don't think it's allowed. They want all SEC schools to respect their boundaries. Everyone wants the SEC to get all the attention it can. If it is allowed the school announcing would look dirty. Who would want that?

This right here.

Slive has burned us on multiple occasions the past several years(Houston Nutt rule etc.) Screw him.

Unfortunately, it appears Hart has just now decided to start looking for a coach.

I, for one, would just think it's smart and would be an advocate for the decision to announce tomorrow.

Love how Slive just makes up "rules" as he goes along. Wouldn't want anyone deflecting attention from Bama, UF or LSU. How can you dictate when a school chooses to make an announcement? The day before does not take anything away from the two teams competing on a Saturday and if it was a monumental hire like Gruden it brings nothing but more positive attention/coverage to the league.

There's no rule against letting a hire leak through the media during the game though. Could do that and have the official university announcement and press conference afterward. That way we're off the hook and still happens during prime time.

I don't see how the SEC can dictate when a school announces a hire.

You can't just hire a coach so you can make an announcement on a certain day. Alot of coaches are still coaching. Alot of coaches would not want the information out until their season is over and possibly even their bowl game. IF we were hiring a guy who could be announced today, I have no doubt hart would do it.

Do you honestly believe Hart is just starting the search? That is absurd.
