Secret Service says "Kill him" allegation unfounded | Wilkes-Barre breaking news | timesleader.com - The Times Leader

SCRANTON – The agent in charge of the Secret Service field office in Scranton said allegations that someone yelled “kill him” when presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s name was mentioned during Tuesday’s Sarah Palin rally are unfounded.

The Scranton Times-Tribune first reported the alleged incident on its Web site Tuesday and then again in its print edition Wednesday. The first story, written by reporter David Singleton, appeared with allegations that while congressional candidate Chris Hackett was addressing the crowd and mentioned Obama’s name a man in the audience shouted “kill him."
News organizations including ABC, The Associated Press, The Washington Monthly and MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann reported the claim, with most attributing the allegations to the Times-Tribune story.
Agent Bill Slavoski said he was in the audience, along with an undisclosed number of additional secret service agents and other law enforcement officers and not one heard the comment.
“I was baffled,” he said after reading the report in Wednesday’s Times-Tribune.

How did he lie about this?
didn't say he did. I just said he passed it off as fact last night. I'd bet his campaign knew long before this article that it wasn't true. Articles don't self generate upon the actual truth coming to light. Since it was about killing Barack, my guess is that he was immediately notified. When do you think that story his to be on this morning's drudge report?

Interesting take. So Obama passed this off as fact knowing that it was not a fact to score some cheap political points against John McCain? No need to answer.

Obama will unfortunately have to get used to this kind of stuff.

What stuff? Apparently, nothing happened. There have been no threats. And if there were, Obama should be able to differentiate between them all... not that there have been any.

don't know. I asked when you think the news hit the Obama camp, given that it was on Drudge this morning?

Don't be silly, Obama would never bold faced lie for political gain. He's been straightforward since he started this run.

I don't think the news ever hit the Obama camp -- despite the fact that you believe it did. If it had, he would not have mentioned it last night. Do you think he's that stupid? Again, no need to answer.

Stupid - no. Willing to lie for political gain - all day long.

Do you want me to take seriously the idea that you don't think the secret service let his camp know?

Whether it's true or false, he's still going to have to get used to it.

Yea, unlike all those other presidents that never had a single person that wanted to kill them. But yea, as usual, we need to add a touch of specialness with respect to anything involving Obama.

I think the SS probably routinely briefs the Obama campaign on all sorts of threats (many real and at least one that was imagined by a journalist). Not sure if Obama himself sits in on those briefings himself, but if he does, I could see how he might have trouble keeping track.

I actually can't stand Obama so I am adding no "touch of specialness" to anything. I realize many threats are made against presidents, but if you think that Obama won't get an unusually large amount of threats upon him you are sadly mistaken.

I probably buy that about as much as yo do. In fact, if you really think he can't keep straight the lone instance that he decided to talk about on a nationally televised debate, maybe you should vote for someone more capable.

His lone strength is education, which implies brains, yet here you are saying he would be confused over this. How can you even remotely pretend he's ready to deal with foreign policy?

And like most anonymous threats they will be just that, meaningless threats.
