I think the difference that could be pointed out there is that Vitter had his episode before he became a Senator, and Clinton "didn't have sexual relations with that woman" while he was physically in the Oval Office. I think there's something to be said for the location.

But as a Congressman? He was in the House before that.

well, now that I read the story a little more thoroughly, it doesn't really give a timeline for Vitter's involvement, just that his number is in the database that ranges from 1994 to 2006.

His apology said only this happened before he was Senator which was 2004. Since this was in DC we can assume it was while he was in elected office which he came to DC in '99.

The irony is that he replaced former Speaker Robert Livingston who resigned due to adultery. Something with that seat down there.

The sad part is for Giuliani who Vitter was his leading supporter in LA. So this makes a cokehead from SC and now a john supporting Rudy...

Here's a good part of the above article:

"Vitter is in his first Senate term after serving six years in the House. During his Senate campaign, Vitter was accused by a member of the Louisiana Republican State Central Committee of carrying on a lengthy affair with a prostitute in New Orleans's French Quarter."

Cheating is one thing. If he were to have done it legally then it shouldn't be a story.

But...some of you seem to have forgotten that not only is he cheating on his wife when he is in the public eye, but he also broke a law. I don't care what your views are on prostitution, if one is a lawmaker, the hypocrisy is (on any account) that he broke another law.

Politicians know that they are going to be held to more scrutiny because they are entrusted with our laws, and giving them a free pass on this seems to me to be completely idiotic and irresponsible.
